Real Madrid VS Atletico Madrid Prediction
Bored or not, we will have another edition of the “Madrid Derby”, when in Wednesday evening Real Madrid will face once again vs their city rivals Atletico Madrid, as “The Whites” are still without a victory over “Los Colchoneros” in all of their seven (!) meetings this season. The eight edition of “El Derbi madrileño” for season 2014/2015 will be vital for the Champions League destiny of both Madrid giants, who met at the Champions League final last year, when Real Madrid managed to achieve their 10th trophy and now “Los Blancos” have to opportunity to become the first side, who can defend the Champions League trophy, of course since the modern establishment of the tournament – 1992. To accomplish this task, first of all Carlo Ancelotti must find a way to beat his opponent Diego Simeone, as the Italian manager failed to win over his Argentinian colleague in their 7 meetings so far – 3 draws and 4 defeats, which is awful record for Ancelotti, and a possible fail in the Champions League, and in La Liga as well, can cost him the manager position at “Santiago Bernabeu”. Ancelotti will have one last chance to overcome “Cholo” in season 2014-2015, but at the same time the Argentinian will look for his Champions League revenge. Intriguing situation we have here.
The home side will come after a 3:1 win against Málaga in their weekend fixture, which left “Los Blancos” on just 2 points behind Barca, but the bad news for Ancelotti came from the fact that Gareth Bale and Luka Modric have both picked up injuries in the mentioned game, which rule them out from the decisive second leg. But that’s not all – Marcelo will miss the game due to the yellow card, which he received in the first leg, while the other option for a left back is doubtful – Fábio Coentrão is not fully fit, but Ancelotti will have to make his decision about the Portuguese defender on the eve of the derby. Another problem for “Los Blancos” comes from the knock that Karim Benzema received, but the Frenchman should be available for the vital game.
On other side “Rojiblancos” will use their full strenght with one exception – Mario Suarez, as the central midfielder will miss the game because of suspension, but Gabi and Tiago are the experienced midfield duo here, and they are both available. Now Simeone can focus fully on the Champions League battle of his side, since the club can be happy from the weekend defeat of Valencia (in Barcelona), which made the difference between Atletico and “The Bats” 4 points, so Atletico are holding the 3rd position in La Liga confidently, at least for now. This means that the last year’s champions of Spain can play on more than 100% here, since the upcoming Primera Division weekend promises relatively easy home challenge against the struggling team of Elche.
Betting prediction and possible starting squads of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid – Champions League quarterfinal – 22.04.2015
Atletico Madrid won in one from their previous visits at “Santiago Bernabeu”, while the other two visits this season ended with draws – 2:2 in Copa del Rey, and 1:1 in the Spanish Super Cup first leg. Now “Los Colchoneros” will be glad if they repeat some from these results, because the clean sheet from the first match will secure them a semifinal place if the game ends with resultative draw, while even a goalless draw won’t be so bad for Atletico, since the club already won on penalties in the last round, when Atletico Madrid eliminated Bayer Leverkusen.
Referee of the clash is the well known German Felix Brych, who was referee of the Champions League clash between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid (April 2014), and of the group stage clash between Atletico Madrid and Juventus, earlier in this season. In both matches he has shown 8 yellow cards and as we know the aggression, which we usually have in these Madrid derbies, we won’t be surprised if Brych shows serious amount of bookings in this game. As an add we don’t expect lot of goals here, as we expect both teams to be very careful here, perhaps like in the previous leg. That’s why our bet for the upcoming “El Derbi madrileño” will be placed with small stakes, and our pick here is for one great option, which our partners from William Hill offer – “Under 2.5 Goals and Over 6 Cards” in the derby between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Our expectations are for a game with lot of challenges, tactical battle and not so much football arguments, at least in the regular 90 mins. Of course, one goal can always change the approach and the progress of the game, but we’ll take the risk here.
