Lazio VS AS Roma Prediction
On the day after “El Clasico”, we have another major game but in Italian football when Calcio’s Sunday afternoon schedule comes with the first edition of “Derby della Capitale” in 2016. Lazio and AS Roma are heading to their city derby (The Rome Derby) after achieving the same results in Round 30 – draws against both Milan clubs, as they both were with the same score – 1:1. However, if we can consider that Lazio can be happy from their result at “San Siro”, then Roma can surely regret for the home result against Inter, but anyway, they were losing until Radja Nainggolan’s equalizer in the closing minutes of that game.
Last edition of “The Rome Derby” was back in November when Roma’s 2:0 success was their second consecutive and also fifth game without losing from their city rivals. That win was mostly inspired by Gervinho’s effort, but the Ivorian winger decided to make a winter move in the “Chinese Super League”, as he joined the debutants from Hebei China Fortune. Nevertheless, Roma can’t complain from the lack of pace and attacking quality, not at all, since we see completely different aspects of Roma’s play since Luciano Spalletti’s appointment, and he is ready for his first “Derby della Capitale” during his second spell at “Olimpico”. We all know that Spalletti replaced Rudi Garcia in January and we can easily make a conclusion that under his management “The Giallorossi” are much sharper, dangerous and playing with higher tempo. These arguments are based on the winter signings of names like Diego Perotti and Stephan El Shaarawy, who have stacked perfectly with the already available names in Roma’s selection and the attacking trio Salah, El Shaarawy, Perotti looks very promising.
Lazio won a point against AC Milan but “The Roman Eagles” are remaining with only one victory from their last six games. Their last home game was the very disappointing 0:3 defeat from Sparta Prague which was part from the UEFA Europa League Round of 16. Thus Lazio lost all hopes for European football in season 2016-2017, since Stefano Pioli’s men are on 8th position with 42 points won and for comparison Milan are sixth, as they have 49 points. Something more, we already mentioned that Lazio remains without a win over Roma for nearly three years – since the Coppa Italia final in 2013 (1:0 for Lazio), when Senad Lulić scored the winning goal, but Bosnian player will have to miss the upcoming derby, since he was sent off in the last round’s draw.
Roma were also involved in the spring part of the UEFA competitions, as “The Wolves” have reached the Champions League 1/8 finals, where they lost to Real Madrid. Thus Roma concentrates fully on their Serie A campaign and on keeping their third position. Luciano Spalletti’s men have comfortable lead over Fiorentina and Inter (5 points) but this doesn’t mean that they can afford any wrong steps, since one point drop can easily shorten their leadership. At the same time Roma remains on seven points behind Napoli and we’re pretty sure that “The Giallorossi” won’t have something against to jump for the second position if there’s an opportunity, which means if Napoli drop points, while Roma gains more in the closing weeks of season 2015-2016.
Possible squads, formations, missing players and betting prediction for Derby della Capitale – 3 April 2016
Roma still leads to Lazio in the overall stats of their rivalry, including in The Calcio, where Roma has 51 wins in 145 matches, but still the most common result between Roma and Lazio in Serie A is the draw – 57 draws. Apparently Lazio has 37 wins and their last Serie A success over their city rivals dates since November 2012, when they won with 3:2 and this has marked a period in which Lazio won three times in a row.
Now Roma are aiming towards their third consecutive win against “The Biancocelesti” and we believe that Luciano Spalletti’s men will return on the winning path, as Luciano Spalletti by himself can win the battle against Stefano Pioli.
Our pledge goes for Roma to earn the three points from the first “Derby della Capitale” in 2016.
