Genoa VS Sampdoria Prediction
First Serie A fixture in 2016 comes with one from the city derbies when in Tuesday evening Genoa and Sampdoria will meet in a clash known as The “Derby della Lanterna“. Both clubs from Genoa are in the bottom third of the standings as their season 2015-2016 is far from impressive, at least when we look at their form and positioning. A derby win can always be helpful and that’s why we are pretty sure that both sides are eager to kick-off the new year in a spectacular way.
This will be the first “Genoa Derby” since February when it ended with a draw, while this time both clubs will look for a possible way out with all the points in their pocket. “The Rossoblu” are symbolic hosts of the game as Genoa will hope to end one really negative streak – 5 games without a win and 5 consecutive defeats for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men. Very disappointing end of 2015 for Genoa and this places them right above the relegation zone (17th) – with only 2 points over Frosinone (18th) who are with only 14 points won.
Genoa’s last win came against Sassuolo and this remains their only victory in the last 10 games, including the embarrassing Coppa Italia drop (losing from Alessandria at home).
Sampdoria were in a similar position but “The Blucerchiati” can be delighted that they managed to end 2015 with a victory – 2:0 win over Palermo. This moves Vincenzo Montella’s men to the 14th position where they are with 20 points and a win over the city rivals can move them to 10th position, at least for a while, and Sampdoria can surely be the more boosted team here, since they’ve won 4 points from their last two Serie A games. Except the home victory vs Palermo, “la Samp” won a point (1:1) from their visit against Lazio and now Vincenzo Montella can breathe calmly. Former coach of Roma, Catania and Fiorentina was appointed as Sampdoria’s manager in mid of November and these results were his first profits for the club from Genoa.
Now he has an opportunity to extend the good Serie A form and a victory in local derbies is always a great way to impress the fans.
Genoa also met a Roman club right prior the Christmas break, but however, their visit at “Olimpico di Roma” was far from successful as they lost to AS Roma.
We certainly find enough motivation in both teams, except that it is a derby game, and we believe that a bet for “Both teams to score” looks very reasonable when it’s placed in such a game, in a particular situation.
