Brazil VS Argentina Prediction
Without any questions, icing on the cake on Thursday’s FIFA World Cup qualifying schedule, 10 November 2016, will take place at the “Mineirão” in Belo Horizonte, where we have one of the biggest football rivalries known as the “Battle of the South Americans” – Brazil against Argentina. Their second qualifying encounter comes almost one year after the 1-1 draw in Argentina, where Gerardo Martino’s selection failed to win over Dunga’s Brazil, but this time we have new faces in charge of both nations and their derby comes with huge importance for them.
Brazil vs Argentina – Team News and Match Preview
Edgardo Bauza has been the chosen one by the AFA (Argentine Football Association), as he replaced Gerardo Martino after another lost final at the 2016 Copa América Centenario in USA, where “La Albiceleste” lost by Chile for second consecutive year. That happened only an year after the 2015 Copa America final defeat in Chile, two years after the 2014 FIFA World Cup final defeat against Germany… on Brazilian turf. Well, Edgardo Bauza had to boost the morale of his players and cope with some rashly decisions taken by first-team players, like Lionel Messi for example. Barcelona’s attacker and star player in Argentina’s selection decided to retire from international football after losing another final match through most dramatic way – either on penalties (both games vs Chile) or after extra-time (as it happened against Germany). Anyhow, Messi acted wisely and decided to reconsider its measure, which was pretty much influenced by emotions after that game. Nevertheless, Bauza is under pressure and Argentina has serious difficulties to meet any of the expectations, since we can find “La Albiceleste” on the sixth position, which means they would not travel for Russia if that was the final positioning… Indeed, Argentina won against Uruguay in Edgardo Bauza’s debut, but that game has been followed by three massive upsets, as a result of which Argentina have won only two points. They were won (or lost?) from both visits against Venezuela (2-2) and Peru (2-2), but undoubtedly biggest disappointment for “La Albiceleste” was a month ago when they’ve lost to Paraguay (0-1) at home, and Sergio Agüero even missed a penalty.
Thankfully to Argentinian fans, players and coach, Argentina have 8 more games to change that, but first one of them will be at one of the most inhospitable places for Argentinian football – in Brazil.
Brazil had to live another nightmare, suffering another really disappointing campaign at the 2016 Copa América Centenario, where “The Seleção” has been eliminated after the group stage. That was second successive failure during Dunga’s second spell as a head coach of The Seleção, preceded by the quarter-final defeat from Paraguay at the 2015 Copa America finals in Chile. Thus the Brazilian Football Confederation had to take adequate measure and Tite’s appointment seems to be the right call, at least from his first months. The 55-year-old former coach of Corinthians and other club teams (mostly on the domestic scene and in the United Arab Emirates) has been awarded with that prestigious position and he’ll have to build a brand new Brazilian setup for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Adenor Leonardo Bacchi (“Tite”) enjoys to a superb beginning of his toughest and most responsible ever challenge, as Brazil can boast with four wins in four games, scoring 12 goals in them. Tite’s debut was against one of the well-performing teams in the qualifying campaign – Ecuador, winning the game 0-3 away from home. It has been followed by a 2-1 victory over Colombia which was Tite’s home debut and these two September results were really helpful for returning some of the lost confidence among the players. We saw it again last month when Brazilians wrecked Bolivia 5-0 at the “Arena das Dunas” in Natal, while only few days later they were once again winners after a journey to Venezuela – 0-2.
Quite a convincing run which places Brazil on top of the South American World Cup qualifiers and Tite’s winning march can become even more impressive if “The Seleção” wins fifth in a row. This will bring double pleasure to all Brazilians, as they’ll keep the first position, but eventual victory over Argentina will deepen even more the crisis of their rivals, as well as leaving them out of the top 5 positions.
Brazil vs Argentina – Betting Prediction and Possible Lineups
Flawless form of Brazil under Tite’s management came as a result of all team efforts and we find even bigger enthusiasm up front. Neymar is set to be brought back into the starting XI after missing out against Venezuela, while Liverpool’s in-form duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino provides even more attacking quality in “The Seleção”. Their form is crucial for Liverpool’s progress and fact that Jürgen Klopp’s selection is topping the English Premier League after 11 rounds. However, starting positions of Neymar and newest huge talent in Brazilian football Gabriel Jesus looks pretty certain here, as latter can boast with 4 goals in its first 4 international caps. Chelsea’s winger Willian can also be an option, but fact he wasn’t that active in the last month can be decisive here, so expectations are Tite will name starting trio including Coutinho, Neymar and the 19-year-old striker of domestic Palmeiras – Gabriel Jesus.
Bad news for Tite are related with its midfielders and with Casemiro’s injury in particular. Real Madrid’s midfielder was initially selected for the upcoming qualifying rounds, but few days ago Brazilian federation decided to leave him out, since he must fully recover from an injury of his fibula. So most likely Brazilian midfield line against Argentina will be filled by names of Paulinho, Fernandinho and Renato Augusto, if Tite starts with a 4-3-3 formation here.
Argentina returns at the venue where they have won against Iran (1-0) in the second group stage round at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. More than two years after that game “La Albiceleste” returns in Brazil for the first time after the lost final and Edgardo Bauza’s side will be keen to arouse some painful memories to the Brazilian team, as they’ll trigger “The Seleção” at the same place they lost to Germany in the semi-finals – that 1-7 defeat which remains the most embarrassing result in history of Brazilian football. Anyway, nobody aims for such a result and three points out of that game should be more than a pleasing achievement for Argentina.
We doubt there is another football nation that can boast with such an attacking potential as of Argentina, so Edgardo Bauza can be delighted by the depth he can use on the front line. Having players like Ángel Di María, Lionel Messi, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Agüero all in the same squad – surely a dream for every coach, but Bauza must find the right approach for that game and he cannot name all of them from the outset, that’s sure.
Expectations are Argentina will once again start with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Gonzalo Higuain on top, while pace of Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi can put Brazil’s defense on serious pressure through the wings. Sergio Agüero can attack from second position here, while experienced midfielders Lucas Biglia and Javier Mascherano are main pretenders to link both phases of Argentina’s approach. Enzo Perez and Ever Banega are also options, but Mascherano and Biglia can carry more defensive functions, which will be their main task.
Brazil vs Argentina 10.11.2016 – Final conclusion and Betting Prediction
Argentina head to Brazil in awful form and also being in one really tricky situation. Importance of that game is definitely bigger to them, while Brazil will remain on good position, no matter what happens in other games between top teams we have earlier the same day – Colombia vs Chile and Uruguay vs Ecuador. So pressure should be more for the Argentinians, but that’s why they have so many world class players in the squad – they must justify the reputation of a star team. Leaving all these sentiments about the fine quality of Argentina aside, “La Albiceleste” usually have serious issues in Brazil and their last success there dates from a friendly match back in April 1998, when a late winner scored by Claudio Javier Lopez won the match for Argentina, in front of nearly 100 000 supporters at the mythical “Maracana” in Rio de Janeiro. That was first victory for Argentina when visiting Brazil after another friendly match back in 1970.
It’s gonna be too hard for Argentina to win but they can surely score a goal, as the same goes for Brazil. We fancy currently suggested odds for “Both teams to score – Yes” when we have two great football nations against each other, with such a great attacking potential and star players ready to prove they really are the better football nation right now. Brazil and Argentina will both score at least once in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Thursday night, 10 November 2016.
