Osmanlispor VS Besiktas Prediction
Turkish Süper Lig returns into action with all 9 games in round 17, as last one of them surely arouse largest interest, when Osmanlispor takes on Besiktas in Monday night. Reigning champion Besiktas head to Turkish capital Ankara, where the “Osmanlı Stadı” is set to stage first duel between both clubs during the 2016-17 Süper Lig season. In fact “The Black Eagles” from Istanbul can be inspired by their five consecutive wins against Osmanlispor, if we consider previous existence of a club from Ankara. Even if we open a new chapter, Besiktas can still boast with a double over “The Ottomans” last season, when we had two high-scoring encounters. First of them was a 2-3 success for Besiktas at the “Osmanlı Stadı” in December 2015. Only few months later, in May, Besiktas lifted its first Süper Lig trophy after a 3-1 success against Osmanlispor at its new “Vodafone Arena”.
Thus squad led by Senol Günes can pull some positives and gain kind of a psychological advantage prior first match in 2017, but on other hand, Osmanlispor must be considered as one of the most progressive clubs in Turkish football.
Current situation in Turkish SüperLig – standings, fixtures and news
“The Ottomans” are truly one of the most progressive clubs in Turkey and fact they have only 2 defeats in 16 league games proves it. Moreover, Osmanlispor finished on top of their Europa League group in a competition with Villarreal, Steaua Bucuresti and FC Zurich. Not a bad record, especially when we keep in mind that Mustafa Resit Akcay’s men started their European quest from second qualifying round.
Meanwhile, Osmanlispor does relatively well in the Süper Lig but they still need to win more, if they want to repeat their last season positioning (5th). At least. Currently “The Ottomans” are sixth and they have one point less from a fifth-placed Bursaspor (27 pts), so a positive score against Besiktas can move them up.
As a result of last season’s triumph Besiktas returned in the UEFA Champions League but “The Black and Whites” couldn’t reach the knockout stage. However, Besiktas finished third in its group and this secures some consolation with a place in the UEFA Europa League 1/16 finals, where after a month Besiktas will face Hapoel Be’er Sheva. In that period Senol Günes must cope with serious competition in the league which doesn’t come only from typical Istanbul rivals. Surprisingly, hegemony of Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce has been ruled out by a fourth Istanbul side in face of Istanbul Basaksehir. Presence of an unanticipated rival places Besiktas on the third position, although they were second in the winter break. After a narrow success for Galatasaray in Konya on Saturday afternoon, as well as of an extremely convincing 5-0 win for Istanbul Basaksehir against Kayserispor in the same day, Besiktas are on a point from Galatasaray and on four behind surprising leaders. Something which makes their trip to Ankara even more significant.
Osmanlispor vs Besiktas 16.01.2017 – Match Preview
First official game of both clubs in 2017 comes with certain aspirations, but not only in the Süper Lig. Indeed, Osmanlispor and Besiktas are two of the Turkish representatives in the 2016-17 UEFA Europa League elimination phase, but there is still a month until renewal of the competition. So basically Osmanlispor and Besiktas can use that period to focus on both domestic fronts, where except contention in the Süper Lig, Turkish Cup is also underway.
Osmanlispor lost only once in 8 league games at home, but most frequent outcome in that period is actually the draw – 4 times. Two of the draws were against Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, while their only defeat was against a surprising opposition – 1-2 vs Kasimpasa in October. Generally “The Ottomans” show strong display, but they must certainly winning more, although a draw won’t be bad for them in that situation, we assume. And why is that? Well, Mustafa Resit Akcay has some serious concerns in midfield and except injury of Nigeiran midfielder Raheem Lawal, whose absence is not the issue, Osmanlispor’s coach cannot rely to one of his most important players – Musa Cagiran. The 24-year-old central midfielder is suspended but this is not everything, as Mustafa Resit Akcay must find another replacement there. That’s influenced by the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and fact that Papa Alioune Ndiaye is one of the 23 players who have been called up by Senegal’s coach Aliou Cisse. So far we find two really important misses in the home side and this most likely means Adrien Regattin will be used as an attacking midfielder, while captain Erdal Kılıçaslan and Dzon Delarge compete for position on the wing.
Experienced Cameroonian striker Pierre Webo looks favourite to start on top of Osmanlispor’s formation, from where Romanian attacker Raul Rusescu is out of contention because of an injury.
On other side Besiktas is one of the active Turkish sides during winter transfer market. Senol Günes is keen to shore up his squad for the battle with all other Istanbul sides. Matej Mitrovic from Croatian Rijeka and Dutch winger Ryan Babel from Deportivo La Coruna are two from the new names in Besiktas, as latter can even start against Osmanlispor. Babel already has experience in Turkish football, playing for Kasimpasa in period 2013-2015, so we won’t be surprised if he starts as a left winger from the outset. Such a move seems to be very likely since Caner Erkin is injured, meaning Adriano should start as a left-back, Olcay Sahan has moved to Trabzonspor, as well as Besiktas also suffers from period when the Africa Cup of Nations traditionally takes place. Vincent Aboubakar is with national team of Cameroon, so Cenk Tosun will start on top of the attack, which opens another place on the wings. And if the Portuguese Ricardo Quaresma is a sure starter here, Babel competes with Kerim Frei.
Veli Kavlak and Talisca are two players who are back to training and this also adds more options for Besiktas, though Kavlak will need more time to gain match fitness.
Betting Prediction with Highest Odds
We believe that Osmanlispor are a tough side, especially at home, so Besiktas will have really tough challenge on Monday. Turkish champions have enough firepower to overcome any side but Osmanlispor are adept at frustrating opponents in Ankara. Under these circumstances we find enough and reasonable arguments for betting on “Both teams to score – Yes“.
