Real Sociedad VS Espanyol Prediction
Friday night, 9 September 2016, comes with different fixtures in most of the major European football leagues and one of them meets two La Liga sides – Real Sociedad will host to Espanyol. “Estadio Municipal de Anoeta” in Basque city San Sebastián is set to stage opening match of round 3 in Spanish La Liga where Real Sociedad will be seeking first home victory in season 2016-17, while Espanyol targets first win at all. Both teams are keen to improve their positioning from season 2015-2016 and this definitely requires proper results, which pretty much depends on the morale gained after first few weeks.
Real Sociedad vs Espanyol – Match Preview
“La Real” returns at home after match day one when they suffered heavy defeat from Real Madrid (0:3) and this was marked by really clueless game. Of course, it always comes to completely different level of football when you’re facing top teams (not only in La Liga) like Real Madrid and Barcelona, but Real Sociedad is one from the rare unique clubs worldwide and their pride doesn’t accept such results. Anyhow, Real Sociedad usually feels serious difficulties when facing Real Madrid and fact they are with just one victory against “The Meringues” in last 12 years speaks a lot. In period 2004-2016. That’s why we will put their opening result aside and we’ll pay more attention on the next game, which definitely gets closer to our expectations for the upcoming round.
Last round Real Sociedad had a visit against Osasuna where they won with 2-0 and squad led by Eusebio Sacristan achieved first victory in the new season. This places them in top half (9th) of La Liga standings, but it’s too early to speak for positioning since only two rounds have already passed.
Espanyol are preparing for their second away game in the new season and “Periquitos” probably used the international break to improve their defending. Quique Sánchez Flores has signed with Spanish club after period in the English Premier League where he led Watford, but now he returns in Spanish La Liga, where he spent significant part of his career as a coach, as well as his entire career as a footballer. Now he doesn’t have same financial opportunities as in England, but despite that Espanyol attracted some interesting names who must increase overall quality of team from Barcelona.
Espanyol can boast with two really decent goalkeepers after they agreed for loaning of their first team goalkeeper Pau López by Tottenham Hotspur, but Quique Sanchez can chose from former goalkeeper of Greek Olympiacos Roberto and another Spaniard in Diego López’s face – he arrived on loan by AC Milan. That’s not all – names of Diego Reyes, Martín Demichelis, Javie Fuego, David Lopez, José Manuel Jurado, José Antonio Reyes, Pablo Piatti, Alvaro Vázquez and Leo Baptistão are from the summer signings who have moored at “Estadi Cornellà-El Prat”.
Real Sociedad vs Espanyol – Betting Prediction and Possible Lineups
We already mentioned that Espanyol had to improve their game in defense and fact they conceded 8 goals in only 2 rounds justifies our argument. Six from all eight goals were scored by Sevilla during match day one when Espanyol lost with 4-6 and this notes catastrophic beginning of the new season for club from Barcelona. Their second fixture was at home and Espanyol have shown better football against Malaga. Nevertheless, they can regret about missed opportunity to win all the points from their first home game as Espanyol took 2-0 lead after two goals by their striker Gerard Moreno, who already has 3 goals after first 2 games, but Malaga managed to level the score as their equalizer came in the closing seconds of the game. This left the bitter taste for Espanyol and two weeks pause in which they must try to clear some of the mistakes.
Real Sociedad will try to take advantage from the poor defensive display of Espanyol and Eusebio Sacristán will probably stick to the same team, with Juanmi on top of the attack and support by captain Xabi Prieto, Mikel Oyarzabal and David Zurutuza from second position. Unfortunately Imanol Agirretxe is still recovering from knee injury but his absence isn’t something new for the home side.
Brazilian striker Léo Baptistão is the only one in Espanyol who has a knock but expectations are that former player of Rayo Vallecano, Atletico Madrid, Betis and Villarreal should be ready to start next to Gerard Moreno in the preferred by Espanyol 4-4-2 formation.
We find good reason to place our bet on “Both teams to score” as desire for first home victory will prevail in Real Sociedad, but Espanyol can also take advantage from their situation and we expect more from their strikers, who have scored six goals in the first two rounds, but their poor defending is the reason why Espanyol is with only one point. “Both teams to score – Yes“.
