Espanyol VS Sevilla Prediction
Sevilla head towards Catalonia where RCD Espanyol takes on visitors from Andalusia at the “RCDE Stadium” near Barcelona. This is match number two between Espanyol and Sevilla in the 2016-17 La Liga season, few months after a real goal fiesta at the “Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán” in Sevilla. A game part of La Liga’s opening round schedule which will be remembered with all 10 goals scored and with its final result – 6-4 for The Andalusians.
Second clash facing Espanyol against Sevilla will take place in Sunday afternoon, 29 Janaury 2017, and both sides can be happy they had a restful week. Their focus falls only upon upcoming Spanish La Liga round since Espanyol and Sevilla were already eliminated from the Copa del Rey, while some other clubs have been involved in its midweek quarter-final round.
Match Preview: Espanyol vs Sevilla 29.01.2017
Espanyol stays at home after a 3-1 success over struggling Granada last Saturday. It was first win of “The Blanquiazules” in 2017 after a home draw against Deporitvo La Coruna and 2-1 defeat in Valencia last weekend. Quique Sánchez Flores can finally be pleased with a victory after four games without winning, as a result of which we can find his squad in first half of the La Liga standings. Currently, before official beginning of round 20 in Friday night, Espanyol occupies 9th position with 26 points and team from Catalonia can be confident as one of the midtable La Liga sides.
Sevilla will start second half of its 2016-17 La Liga season with five consecutive league wins. A fine form which consists of 17 goals in that period and some remarkable results like a 2-1 win vs Real Madrid. Apart from ending Real Madrid’s unbeaten run, Sevilla can boast with some greater wins and scores such as the 0-3 vs Celta in Vigo, 0-4 vs Real Sociedad in San Sebastian, 3-4 vs Osasuna in Pamplona and a 4-1 home win vs Malaga.
All mentioned victories are placing Sevilla on second position in the La Liga standings and on a point from its peak, although Real Madrid have one game less. However, except all league wins, Sevilla lost the two-legged Copa del Rey battle against Real Madrid and those were the only negative results for Sevilla after a goalless draw in Lyon, early in December. Actually it was a draw which promoted Sevilla to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Thus “Sevillistas” have four more domestic games before renewing of their European campaign against a surprising English Premier League champion Leicester City, which is scheduled for second half of February.
Team News, Squads and Missing Players
Either sides can be inspired by their last weekend efforts and they certainly carry some positives the teams, especially to Espanyol.
“The Blanquiazules” were in a desperate need to win a game after some disappointing results and Quique Sánchez Flores will most likely stick to the formation he used against Granada. One of the new names in Espanyol’s squad was of young defender Marc Navarro, who left some great impressions at the right-back. He can claim a starting position against Sevilla, especially when two of the possible right-backs are still doubtful – Víctor Sánchez and Javi López.
Certain absentees in the home team are of central midfielder Pape Diop, who represents Senegal at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, as well as of injured Brazilian forward Leo Baptistão.
Jorge Sampaoli will be keen to reach sixth consecutive La Liga win and the Argentine can use his optimal starting XI. Benoît Trémoulinas and Michael Krohn-Dehli are both missing players, but their absence is not something new for Sevilla, so basically Sampaoli has all key players available. Vitolo should be fit to return in the squad and this adds greater width in their attacking potential. Samir Nasri is another player who can return into Sevilla’s starting lineup.
Matchday update: Vitolo misses out having not made a full recovery.
With arrival of winter signing Stevan Jovetic, alongside names of Franco Vázquez, Pablo Sarabia, Luciano Vietto and Wissam Ben Yedder, Jorge Sampaoli has some options in attack. Moreover, higher competition in the team is definitely one of the reasons for Sevilla’s superb form and former coach of Chile can always surprise us.
Betting Prediction and Possible Lineups
Espanyol have not lost any of their last seven La Liga matches at home (3 wins and 4 draws), but have conceded in last three of them. Anyway, most of the games were against teams from second half of the table and we expect completely different approach against Sevilla.
Jorge Sampaoli’s men are eager for another success and we recognize them as the favourites once again. Except a surprising defeat in Granada, Sevilla were winners in four of their last five visits. Apparently “The Rojiblancos” have found a way out from the poor away syndrome in the 2015-16 season, when Sevilla ended the La Liga season without a single win on the road.
Some months later club from Andalusia is one of the strongest away teams in Spanish La Liga and we are ready to place a bet on them. Sevilla (1X2 Betting) can earn the whole set of points against Espanyol on Sunday afternoon.
Venue: “RCDE Stadium”, Cornella de Llobregat, Barcelona.
