Celta Vigo VS Atletico Madrid Prediction
Round 3 of Spanish La Liga starts in Friday night with clash between Real Sociedad and Espanyol, but it continues on the next day when first fixture from Saturday’s schedule meets Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid. Definitely one of the most intriguing games in round 3, if not the most intriguing at all, especially if we consider that both teams are still without a victory after first two legs. We’ll see how both coaches managed to use these two weeks for international football, but we must also keep in mind that some of their players were involved in games of their national teams.
Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid – Match Preview
Chilean winger Fabian Orellana is one of Celta’s players who will miss upcoming round and he will probably be sidelined for around one month, as he picked up hamstring injury. Orellana remains the only goal scorer for “The Sky Blues” so far in the season as he scored their goal in the 1-2 defeat against Real Madrid last round. And if we can say that defeat was anticipated, then Eduardo Berizzo’s men should be frustrated by their defeat in round one when they lost with 0-1 by newcomers from Leganés.
Despite Fabian Orellana’s injury, Eduardo Berizzo shouldn’t be so worried as he can rely on Danish youngster Pione Sisto, who arrived in Vigo from FC Midtjylland and Celta have paid 6 million euro to his former club. Now Sisto will have chance to start and he can play on his favourite position on the right wing.
Other players who are injured for Celta are of goalkeeper Rubén Blanco, left back Carles Planas and French attacker Claudio Beauvue, while another Chilean player remains doubtful – central midfielder Marcelo Díaz recovers from achilles tendon injury. Swedish attacker John Guidetti will miss the game as well and this means that Iago Aspas will most likely play on top of Celta’s attack.
Diego Simeone cannot complain from serious injury concerns as Argentine head coach of “Atleti” must pick his starting without goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya and Italian forward Alessio Cerci, but anyway, they are not first-team choices so this isn’t such an issue. However, Simeone has its own issues and they’re related with poor start of his team – only two points were won by Atletico Madrid. “Los Colchoneros” have slipped against two of the newly promoted teams as first of all they experienced real nightmare against Deportivo Alavés at their own “Vicente Calderón”, while in round two “Atleti” failed to score against team which has won over Celta in Vigo, back in matchday one – Leganés (0:0 draw).
These results are far from acceptable for “El Cholo” and we are pretty sure he has conducted some serious conversations with his players after first two rounds and before upcoming trip to Galicia.
Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid – Betting Prediction and Possible Lineups
Both sides are on eve of their opening games in the respective UEFA competitions as in Thursday evening Celta will start its UEFA Europa League quest by meeting Standard Liège in Belgium, while two days earlier, in Tuesday, Atletico will play in same region where they’ll hope to achieve good result against Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven. This comes only few months after their 1/8 final Champions League duel and actually competition remains the same, but on different stage – opening group phase evening. Apparently both teams have good reason to boost their confidence, but to chase their first wins in the new 2016-17 La Liga season.
Despite these poor attacking performances and unpleasing results for Atletico Madrid, we believe that Diego Simeone will give more credit to his players and we don’t expect major changes. We believe that it’s only matter of time until French attacking duo between the UEFA Euro 2016 Player of the Tournament, as well as Golden Boot winner Antoine Griezmann and Atleti’s summer signing Kevin Gameiro will start working properly and we won’t be surprised if it starts from Saturday.
Our recommendation goes on the away side – Atletico Madrid to win against Celta in Vigo. As we already noted, it’s only matter of time for Atleti to start winning as signings of players like Sime Vrsaljko, Nico Gaitan and Kevin Gameiro will definitely improve their overall quality, as well as they’ll increase squad depth of Diego Simeone’s selection.
Venue: “Estadio de Balaídos”, Vigo.
