Stabaek vs Viking Prediction, Preview, H2H, Lineups & Betting Tips 22.05.2017
Stabaek takes on Viking in a last round 10 encounter of the 2017 Eliteserien. The match will take place at the “Nadderud Stadion” where hosts Stabaek are keen of showing some consistency against guests from Stavanger, who travel to Bærum after three consecutive defeats.
Head-to-head history: Stabaek vs Viking
Stabaek and Viking have met in each of last three Eliteserien seasons after Stabaek had a short one-year spell in the 1. Division (second tier of Norwegian football) back in 2013. Since Stabaek’s resurrection both clubs have six games and there isn’t a win for the away side in this term.
In period 2013-2016 Stabaek and Viking are doing well at home turf when it comes to a direct encounter. This includes two wins and a draw for either team. Stabaek won its home match in the 2016 Eliteserien (1-0 on 12 May) while three months later they have stole a point at the “Viking Stadion” in Stavanger with a 2-2 draw.
Eliteserien: Stabaek vs Viking 22.05.2017
“The Blue Ones” are doing really well in the 2017 Eliteserien season and squad led by Antoni Ordinas intends to avoid similar difficulties like last year. Now Stabaek have won 17 points in 9 rounds and this makes them only with four points behind leader Rosenborg, who already slipped at home against Lillestrøm on Saturday (1-1). Odds BK may eventually level them if they win over Molde on Sunday, but nevertheless, Stabaek has a pretty good chance to reach the top.
Antoni Ordinas will try to achieve second successive win that month since Stabaek did quite well in April, but May arrived with two consecutive draws. However, they both were against tough sides (Vålerenga and Rosenborg), so Stabaek can be inspired but mostly by the 1-2 win over Strømsgodset last Tuesday.
The midweek round wasn’t so successful for “The Dark Blues” from Stavanger as Viking suffered third loss in a row. This leaves them with just four points and makes Viking biggest relegation pretender, unless they don’t show sudden improvement in upcoming weeks.
Match Preview: Team News, Squads and Missing Players
After a slight glimmer of hope and four points won in end of April (3-0 vs Odds BK at home, 1-1 vs Brann in Bergen), Viking surely hinted about its self-preservation instinct. However, these two results, plus another Norwegian Cup success over a lower-division opposition, were followed by the aforementioned three defeats where Viking scored one and conceded eight goals.
Despite all defeats Ian Burchnall will most likely use similar squad as in the last 1-2 midweek defeat to Aalesund, when Viking lost in closing minutes.
Stabaek couldn’t score in last two home matches and this should make their Monday night willingness even greater. Tonny Brochmann (5 goals) and Ohi Omoijuanfo (8 goals) are both key forwards in current 4-2-3-1 formation preferred by Antoni Ordinas and they once again found their names on the scoresheet when Stabaek won its midweek journey to Drammen. We do believe they’ll draw out more confidence from that performance and can possibly contribute for a scoring effort over Viking.
Stabaek vs Viking Betting Prediction
Stabaek is surely the side in a better mood and their high morale may move them on top of the standings. A win may come as a successful beginning of the new week, which puts them right behind Rosenborg and that’s an obvious sign of improvement, especially after their 14th position and the end of season 2016. Indeed, Stabaek had to defend its Eliteserien status in a two-legged matchup against Jerv and apparently was a successful playoff for “The Blue Ones”.
Viking was one of the mid-table teams last season (8th) and if that wasn’t the best for them, well, what can they say right now?
We definitely believe Stabaek (1X2 Betting) has what it takes to win second game in a row. Viking seems to be a vulnerable victim and Stabaek can benefit from their poor shape.
Venue: “Nadderud Stadion”, Bærum.
