Rosenborg vs Odds BK Prediction, H2H Preview, Lineups & Betting Tips 02.04.2017
The 2017 Eliteserien finally kick-offs after a long winter break in Norwegian football and we surely have a proper round one fixture on Sunday night, when Rosenborg starts its title defence against Odds BK. All sixteen clubs members of the top-football-tier in Norway are ready for battle as the “Lerkendal Stadion” in Trondheim is set to stage a very intriguing encounter facing reigning champion Rosenborg and guests from Skien. We can easily describe that game as a “very intriguing” one, not only because Rosenborg is Norway’s most successful football club, but because Odds BK was third in final standings of the 2016 Eliteserien.
H2H Stats: Rosenborg vs Odds BK
Rosenborg lost only three times during season 2016 and surprisingly or not, two of their defeats came exactly from Odds BK. Although distance between both clubs was 18 points at the end, Odds BK can boast with a double over the champion and Rosenborg have no reason to underestimate its opposition right now.
A little more than one year ago, 12 March 2016, Odds BK and Rosenborg have once again met in opening round of the 2016 Eliteserien. After a sole goal, scored by a midfielder Fredrik Nordkvelle in first-half of the game, Odd made a promising start of the 2016 campaign on its “Skagerak Arena” in Skien.
More than seven months later, 23 October 2016, Odds BK formed their double over Rosenborg as “Oddrane” won 1-2 in Trondheim. Central defender Fredrik Semb Berge scored a very late winner in stoppage time of the game and thereby he brought a crucial win for Odds BK, while Rosenborg were already certain about their league triumph.
The last competitive success of Rosenborg dates from summer of 2015 when “Troillongan” won 3-0 at home turf. That was their seventh consecutive league win over Odds BK.
Eliteserien: Rosenborg vs Odds BK 02.04.2017
Rosenborg retained its crown by winning Norwegian league for second successive year and now squad led by Kåre Ingebrigtsen aims into third in a row.
With an overall number of 65 goals scored by Rosenborg last term, there was a striker who deservedly became top goal scorer. That was the Danish forward Christian Gytkjær who joined 1860 München earlier this winter, as the German club paid €2.3 mln for his signature. Logically Kåre Ingebrigtsen had to look for a reliable replacement of Gytkjær and Rosenborg made a surprising transfer with name of another Danish striker. That is Nicklas Bendtner who is still 29 but hopes to revive his career after few extremely disappointing years in different leagues and teams – Juventus, Wolfsburg, Notthingham Forest. Meanwhile, his spell in Sunderland (season 2011-12) was relatively fine and Bendtner scored 8 goals in 28 Premier League rounds, but yet far from any expectations over him.
Otherwise Rosenborg have kept their main squad and even added another attacking player – Serbian winger Milan Jevtovic, who arrives on a loan from Antalyaspor.
Dag-Eilev Fagermo, who is in charge of Odds BK since 2008, also managed to keep the outlook of his team and will try to be even more competitive in upper part of the table.
Odds BK was involved in some high-scoring games in past few weeks and this includes victories over Viking (4-1), Jerv (3-2), Aalesund (3-1), as well as the two defeats in last two friendlies – vs Elfsborg (1-2) and Start (3-4).
Match Preview: Team News, Squads and Missing Players
Perhaps the most recognizable departures in Odd are related with names of a midfielder Ole Jørgen Halvorsen (to Sarpsborg 08), experienced defender Lars Kristian Eriksen and winger Chukwuma “Bentley” Akabueze, who were both released.
On other hand Dag-Eilev Fagermo strengthens his squad with names of Swedish midfielder Martin Broberg (from Örebro SK) and with two attackers. First of them is Pape Pate Diouf who arrived on a free transfer from Molde, but atmosphere in Skien is not something new to the Senegalese as he already wore Odds BK’s kit in 2015. Second is name of the Norwegian striker Torbjørn Agdestein who comes from Haugesund, where he scored 10 goals last season. This placed Agdestein next to the 35-year-old Canadian forward of Odds BK Olivier Occean, as they have shared fourth position in the goal scorer rankings.
Without much hesitation we can underline that the most important act in winter transfer policy of Odds BK was keeping of Rafik Zekhnini within the team. The 19-year-old, born in Skien, Norwegian attacker from Albanian descent is under the spotlights and he can surely contribute for a strong beginning of the new season for “Oddrane”.
Rosenborg shows bigger activity on the transfer market and champions of Norway are keen to build a battle-worthy lineup which will not only defend their domestic trophy, but has to contribute for an eventual Champions League breakthrough.
Except the aforementioned incoming transfers of Milan Jevtovic and Nicklas Bendtner, Rosenborg signed with Elbasan Rashani on a permanent contract. He already spent the 2016 season in Trondheim on a loan from Danish Brøndby, but it seems that Kåre Ingebrigtsen is pleased with Rashani’s appearances and decided to bring him on full-time.
Rosenborg’s defense should also be improved with few other signings: Vegar Eggen Hedenstad, Jacob Rasmussen (from St. Pauli) and Birger Meling (Stabæk).
Goalkeeper Arild Østbø (Sarpsborg 08) and midfielder Marius Lundemo (free agent from Lillestrøm) are other names who have joined Rosenborg.
Expectations are that Kåre Ingebrigtsen will choose a starting squad based on players who were first-team regulars last year, but we might also see Vegar Eggen Hedenstad at the right back and Jevtovic on the left wing. Pal André Helland is also a favourite to replace Rashani on other wing.
This will be almost the same squad that won the Super Cup match against Brann in Bergen on Wednesday, but the centre-back duo may be changed.
Rosenborg BK vs Odds BK Betting Prediction
Rosenborg looks solid and reasonably considered as a favourite to win the league for third season in a row. However, Odds BK are often determined as the second biggest favourite, but with a huge difference between the first two. If average odds backing Rosenborg as a league champion are less than evens (2.00 or 1/1), values behind Odds BK vary between 9 and 12 (8/1-11/1).
It is still too early to make some general conclusions about each team’s form but Rosenborg already hints for the old-new potential after their Super Cup victory couple of days ago.
Odds BK have nothing to lose here and we find decent value on currently proposed betting odds for “Both teams to score – Yes“.
