Utrecht VS PSV Eindhoven Prediction

Less than a week after winning of The Johan Cruijff Schaal (Dutch Super Cup), PSV Eindhoven kick-offs its title defense in Dutch Eredivisie when in Saturday night FC Utrecht welcomes reigning champions in round one.
FC Utrecht finished fifth in season 2015-2016 but couldn’t qualify for the UEFA Europa League since they lost to Heracles in the final playoff. However, Erik ten Hag’s men have shown quite an improvement after season 2014-2015 when they finished 11th, as Utrecht climbed significantly in the standings and new season comes with new hopes. In a fact Utrecht remains the only Dutch team outside “The Big Three” (Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord) which has never been relegated from the Eredivisie and they’re one of the factors in Dutch football, although they can’t shine as much as their opponents. Nonetheless, Utrecht is always a tough challenge and “Stadion Galgenwaard” is certainly tough venue for PSV to begin.
Phillip Cocu’s men successfully retained their Eredivisie trophy and most of you probably remember the dramatic character of this outcome. Ajax were really close to win the trophy but their last round slip gave it to their rivals from Eindhoven, who are once again favorites for winning the top-flight of Dutch football.

Only few nights before Eredivisie football to be renewed PSV won against Feyenoord (1:0) and that happened in heart of third big club in Netherlands – “Amsterdam ArenA”. Davy Pröpper scored only goal in that game few minutes before first half to finish and some minutes after PSV’s captain Luuk de Jong missed to score from penalty. Thus PSV has outwitted Feyenoord and we expect same starting eleven from Phillip Cocu, which means that summer signing Daniel Schwaab is set to make his Eredivisie debut, while Mexican defender Héctor Moreno remains doubtful and he most likely won’t travel to Utrecht, but even if he travels with the team, he’ll remain on the bench.

Eredivisie: FC Utrecht vs PSV – Squads and Betting Prediction

PSV can boast with the striking number of wins over Utrecht – 8 in a row, but all of them are in The Eredivisie. Last of them was again in Utrecht when PSV won with 2-0 early in February, but however, that game was preceded by a surprising 3:1 success for Utrecht in The Dutch Cup. Indeed, this remains Utrecht’s only victory against PSV in their last 9 encounters and to be even more surprising, that happened at “Philips Stadion” in Eindhoven. Later on Utrecht reached the KNVB Beker (Dutch Cup) final where they lost from Feyenoord. Otherwise both teams could met only week ago in the Super Cup game.
Now Utrecht aims to end that losing streak against PSV when it comes to Eredivisie games and their last league victory dates from September 2012 – 1:0 in a game where Utrecht remained with only 9 players on the field, after two red cards in the second half. Anyway, their winning goal was scored in period between both cards and this makes their victory even more memorable.
PSV will surely be inspired by the Super Cup victory and also by the convincing form they show against Utrecht. Of course, this doesn’t mean that Utrecht will lose it by default, not at all. PSV have lot of work to do here and we believe they can kick-off the new Eredivisie campaign with ninth successive league triumph against Utrecht.

Referee: Bas Nijhuis.

Venue: “Stadion Galgenwaard”, Utrecht.
