Roma vs Lazio prediction before an anticipated Derby di Roma at the “Stadio Olimpico” on Saturday evening, 18 November 2017. For the first time in what definitely feels like years we are on the eve of a so-exciting Derby della Capitale when Roma and Lazio are ready to rumble as evenly-matched sides, both pushing for the top Serie A positions. Read on to find out what our experts have to say in a detailed match preview, prediction and more Serie A betting tips.

H2H History: AS Roma vs Lazio

There have been just three draws in the past 12 years of The Rome Derby, with 11 victories of Roma against six in Lazio’s favour in the Serie A.
Lazio won the last derby 3:1 in end of April which was their first Serie A success over the Roman rivals since November 2012. In the meantime, both Roman clubs have met several times for the Coppa Italia, including a two-legged semi-final matchup last season, when Lazio won 4:3 on aggregate (2:0, 2:3) but later on lost the final to Juventus. Moreover, Lazio accomplished another massive success over Roma in the competition by winning the 2013 Coppa Italia Final, which was the last trophy won by either of the Rome sides before Lazio’s triumph in this year’s Supercoppa Italiana.

Serie A: AS Roma vs Lazio 18.11.2017

While the dust slowly settles after a devastating Italian failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup next summer, a clash from such a caliber can help distract from what has been a difficult few days for whole Italy.
Roma and Lazio are fifth and fourth, respectively, in the Serie A standings, both having a game less compared to the rest of the top five due to awful weather conditions during the previous weeks. Only a single point separates Roma and Lazio, and each have nine wins out of 11 fixtures, but The Giallorossi have lost twice so far, one more than “The Eagles”.
Lazio heads to the Roman Derby being in a superb mood, winning nine games in a row in all competitions. Simone Inzaghi has turned the Biancocelesti into potential Scudetto contenders this season and they have already beaten the consecutive champions Juventus in Turin, ending their incredible home Serie A record after making a brilliant comeback. Ciro Immobile didn’t shine for Italy in the international break but he surely does so for Lazio and Immobile has already scored 14 goals in the Calcio.

As for Roma, The Giallorossi look very ambitious so far. Whilst they have scored the least number of goals from the top five Serie A sides (21), they do hold the best defensive record, conceding just seven times in 11 rounds. A newly appointed coach in Eusebio Di Francesco’s face has managed to make Roma’s defensive line a very tough nut to crack, but they do score as well. Antonio Conte’s Chelsea were among the persuaded teams that Roma is sharp up front and they have scored six goals in the two Champions League encounters against English champions.
In the last Serie A round, right prior the break, Roma have reached another great result by winning 2:4 at the “Stadio Artemio Franchi” in Florence. These two goals scored from Fiorentina have ended Roma’s record of four successive clean sheets, but we highly doubt someone cares about that since Roma have scored four and thus have won for the fifth time in a row.

Match Preview: Team News, Squads and Missing Players

Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan picked up a groin injury while being on international duty and missed both friendly matches against Japan and Mexico. Most likely “The Ninja” won’t be fit in time to start here and his absence in midfield is a massive question mark. A Roman-born duo, veteran-skipper Daniele De Rossi and youngster Lorenzo Pellegrini, are two of the favourites to form a central midfield trio alongside Kevin Strootman, but French midfielder Maxime Gonalons can be an option as well.
Summer signing Rick Karsdorp has suffered another heavy injury and should return to training in spring of 2018. Nevertheless, Alessandro Florenzi shows good form and we believe that Eusebio Di Francesco has an excellent polyvalent option with his presence.
Kostas Manolas returned from injury and even scored one of the goals against Fiorentina, so the Greek defender is set to build a centre-back duo with Federico Fazio, while Juan Jesus should remain on the bench.
Simone Inzaghi can rely on some players who have recovered over the international break, mainly Brazilian Felipe Anderson. The 24-years-old attacker could record his first season appearance but we are not certain whether Inzaghi is willing to make such a rotation exactly in that game. He can have Anderson on the bench but it might be too early for him to feature from the outset. Anyway, Luis Alberto (3 goals and 5 assists) and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic both enjoy their best football and the Spaniard even earned his first ever senior team cap in the midweek, playing the last 16 minutes in a friendly win (5:0) over Costa Rica.
Ciro Immobile (14 goals and 6 assists) is expected to lead Lazio’s attacking formation, despite his goalless performances in both playoffs vs Sweden.
Matchday Update 18.11.2017: Ciro Immobile is actually a huge doubt for the Biancocelesti after skipping last training before Saturday’s derby, but Simone Inzaghi is convinced his leading striker should be ready to start.

AS Roma vs Lazio Prediction and Betting Tips

Over the years the Derby della Capitale has proven to be a clash where the outcome is more important for the city than any positioning. Well, that has all changed with the beginning of season 2017-18 where both Roman clubs can feel inspired and draw out extra inspiration from the starts they have made. Their European future looks bright as well, where Roma does quite well in the Champions League and Lazio have already secured its place in the UEFA Europa League 1/16 finals draw.
This Rome Derby is too unpredictable to call and can easily turn in either way. Indeed, we have two fierce city rivals which seem to find themselves in an excellent form and most expectations are pointing to a goal fiesta in Rome. However, we expect a tight clash, pressure between the lines of both teams, and last but not least – some serious challenges.
Experienced Gianluca Rocchi will referee the game and despite showing “only” four cards in Roma’s 0:1 loss to Napoli early in current campaign, he often shows cards, including the red colour, in big games. For instance, Rocchi has shown a red card in all (4 in overall) of the last three Lazio games he led.
So our betting experts are looking onto the card betting markets. Our first betting prediction goes on the overall number of cards – “Over 6.5 Cards“. Second, we place another bet – “Over 0.5 Red Cards” – we won’t be surprised if someone is sent-off in the Roma-Lazio derby, as it happened in three of the last six encounters.
