Bundesliga: Wolfsburg vs Hannover 96 09.09.2017

The 2016/2017 Bundesliga season can be simply described as one of the worst in Wolfsburg’s history. “The Wolves” finished 16th and had to save their skin in a two-legged relegation playoff vs another Lower Saxony club – Eintracht Braunschweig. Their last campaign was a total disaster for another reason and that was fact they struggled to find the back of the opponents net, despite having a world class striker like Mario Gomez. Experienced German forward found part of his form in closing stages of the season under Andres Jonker’s leadership, as the latter will hope to avoid destiny of his predecessor Valerien Ismaël. Jonker leads Wolfsburg since end of February and so far he had a chance to spend some cash (around £45m) on the transfer market.
Hannover 96 are back to the German top flight just one year after their disappointing relegation at the end of season 2015/16. Hannover’s recent form should see them carefully optimistic ahead of Saturday, especially after the two opening matches against Mainz 05 and Schalke 04, where Andre Breitenreiter’s men achieved two narrow wins. This puts “The Reds” into top four alongside Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and HSV.

Match Preview: Team News, Squads and Missing Players

As we stated Wolfburg invested some serious cash which clearly shows their determination to bounce back much stronger this season. Well, the 0:3 loss to BVB wasn’t the best possible beginning but last round’s 0:1 win over Eintracht in Frankfurt will surely boost them before round three.
Summer signings Ignacio Camacho and loanee Divock Origi are set to play as the former may start in the centre-back trio alongside Marcel Tisserand/Robin Knoche. That’s pretty much related with injury of another summer transfer John Anthony Brooks who is injured and will miss out, as well as Dutch defender Jeffrey Bruma and Polish winger Jakub Blaszczykowski.
Matchday update: Marcel Tisserand also got injured during international duty with DR Congo and will miss out. Youngster Felix Uduokhai will most likely replace him if Andries Jonker sticks to the 3-4-2-1 formation.
Divock Origi who landed in Wolfsburg on loan by Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool can make his Bundesliga debut in an attacking trio next to Daniel Didavi, and of course – Mario Gomez.
Hannover also showed activity on the transfer market as the team had to strengthen its positions coming back from the 2. Bundesliga. The Reds have brought in Julian Korb from Borussia M’Gladbach, Pirmin Schewgler from Hoffenheim, and striker Jonathas from Rubin Kazan. Brazilian forward already scored a goal when Hannover won vs Schalke 04 last roundo so Jonathas challenges Niclas Füllkrug for his spot up front.
In the meantime Andre Breitenreiter must form his lineup without missing names of: captain Edgar Prib, left-back Miiko Albornoz, wingers Sarenren-Bazee and Uffe Bech, who are all injured. Newest signing Ihlas Bebou (coming from Fortuna Düsseldorf) is also a doubt.

Wolfsburg vs Hannover 96 Prediction and Betting Tips

Hannover 96 looked solid defensively so far and to be more specific there were “Under 2.5 Goals” in 12 of Hannover’s 14 matches since their unbeaten streak began in March (10 wins, 4 draws). Now they will try to put Wolfsburg under pressure as “The Wolves” were one of the worst home sides last year and their new home campaign didn’t had best possible start as well.
Considering most of these numbers remain in the 2016-17 season, we will open a new chapter for the new campaign and we expect something different here. Wolfsburg’s boss can rely on players who all have greater potential and their second home match this year should be a proper stage for a new face to show up. This may open some spaces for guests from Hannover who have scored in any of their last five visits to Wolfsburg.
Our betting prediction here goes on Both teams to score & Over 2.5 Goals.
