Wolfsburg vs FC Ingolstadt Betting Preview, Prediction, H2H & Lineups 15.04.2017
Saturday afternoon traditionally comes with a regular Bundesliga action as one of the games is set to take place at the “Volkswagen-Arena” where Wolfsburg takes on FC Ingolstadt. Six rounds before end of the 2016-17 Bundesliga season both sides are directly involved in the relegation battle, being only on two points from each other.
H2H History: Wolfsburg vs FC Ingolstadt 04
After joining the top-tier of German football in season 2015–16 FC Ingolstadt had two home matches and one visit to Wolfsburg. This will be their second Bundesliga away game in city of Volkswagen but third at all, since Ingolstadt and Wolfsburg have also met in the 2013-14 DFB Pokal campaign.
“The Wolves” can be pleased with their home record against “Die Schanzer” as they have won in both occasions. First of all they made a comeback from 0-1 to 2-1 in the aforementioned German Cup tie, while their first ever Bundesliga encounter in Wolfsburg has been marked with a 2-0 success.
On other hand the two previous matches at the “Audi Sportpark” were without a winner after a goalless draw last season and a 1:1 draw few months ago – end of November.
Bundesliga: Wolfsburg vs FC Ingolstadt 15.04.2017
Everyone in Wolfsburg was not particularly pleased with an 8th position after all 34 rounds in the 2015-16 Bundesliga season, but what “The Wolves” will say now? Their 2016-17 season is even worse and despite serious activity on transfer market Wolfsburg finds itself on a point above the relegation zone. Club from Lower Saxony collects 30 points in 28 rounds which puts Wolfsburg under serious threat, having only two points lead over current enemy from Ingolstadt, who are meanwhile 17th.
Guests from Bavaria are with just 28 points but only three rounds ago they had 19, meaning they have won three in a row. A fine form shown by squad led from Maik Walpurgis, whose previous experience is in lower league clubs like SV Enger-Westerenger, FC Gütersloh, Arminia Bielefeld II, Sportfreunde Lotte and VfL Osnabrück. This time Walpurgis is in a completely different atmosphere after his appointment in November 2016.
Match Preview: Team News, Squads and Missing Players
Wolfsburg is also led by another coach in comparison with first part of the season and Dutchman Andries Jonker is the chosen one. He already has experience in Wolfsburg when he was an assistant in period 2012–2014, which means he was on Wolfsburg’s bench when they eliminated Ingolstadt from the German Cup in December 2013. Nevertheless, current environment is terrifying and Andries Jonker must work hard to retain Wolfsburg’s elite status.
The 54-year-old Jonker began his Bundesliga journey with two wins and two draws in first four matches, but they have been followed by two defeats in last two rounds. After a disappointing home loss to Freiburg (0-1), Wolfsburg travelled to Gelsenkirchen where they lost 4-1 to Schalke 04 last weekend. These two results may affect on Andries Jonker and we won’t be surprised if he makes some rotations in the team. Anyhow, Jonker won’t be able to use a wide list of missing names: Diego Benaglio, Jeffrey Bruma, Ricardo Rodríguez, Ismail Azzaoui, Paul-Georges Ntep, Ashkan Dejagah and Victor Osimhen – all of them injured.
Winter addition Riechedly Bazoer may also be replaced in the starting XI and we won’t be surprised if Philipp Wollscheid starts alongside Robin Knoche in heart of Wolfsburg’s defense. That move will allow captain Luiz Gustavo (in absence of Benaglio) to take his regular position in midfield, where he can be partner of Josuha Guilavogui.
In the meantime attacking line of Wolfsburg can be easily predicted as we can’t find too many sharp players there. Expectations are that once more Mario Gomez will start on top, supported by the same trio used against Schalke – Yunus Malli, Max Arnold and Daniel Didavi all pushing from second position.
Maik Walpurgis has his own concerns and after the victories over three other relegation pretenders (Mainz 05, Augsburg and Darmstadt 98), coach of Ingolstadt will have to rotate his defensive line. Romain Brégerie was sent-off in closing minutes of match against Darmstadt last weekend and French defender must serve his suspension. An experienced Brazilian midfielder Roger will most likely replace Brégerie at centre-back. Other missing names in the away side are of Tobias Levels and Moritz Hartmann.
Good news for the Bavarians are related with name of right-midfielder Florent Hadergjonaj who returns from a suspension. He should replace Mathew Leckie in the squad, while latter competes with Sonny Kittel and Pascal Groß for a position behind the striker.
Wolfsburg vs FC Ingolstadt Betting Prediction
We won’t exaggerate if we describe the home match against FC Ingolstadt as one of the last chances for Wolfsburg. Not only because “The Wolves” must avoid relegation and they welcome one of the direct rivals, but because in following weeks Wolfsburg has an awful schedule. After that round 29 game on Saturday afternoon, Andries Jonker’s men have three visits and two home games remaining. Upcoming matches on the road are against clubs with certain ambitions for European football – Hertha BSC and Eintracht Frankfurt, as well as a visit to Hamburg in last Bundesliga round, which can be a decider since HSV is also involved in same battle. Furthermore, next two home games of Wolfsburg are against Bayern Munich and Gladbach, so basically their match against Ingolstadt seems to be the most reliable source of points.
It’s true that Ingolstadt are in their best form since joining the Bundesliga (three successive league wins), but we believe that Wolfsburg holds more quality and they simply can’t afford another wrong step. Not in that moment of the season. Our betting prediction goes on the home win (1X2 Betting): Wolfsburg are capable to defeat FC Ingolstadt on Saturday afternoon.
Second market we firmly recommend is betting on Mario Gomez as a potential Anytime Goalscorer. His presence should be crucial for the final score and player like Gomez can be the right person to break Ingolstadt’s tight defending. Offered betting odds on Mario Gomez are decent as well and we will place another stake on his finishing skills.
Venue: “Volkswagen Arena”, Wolfsburg.
