Schalke 04 VS Bayern Munich Prediction
Classic German encounter in Friday night will open round two of the Bundesliga in a classic way, when “Veltins-Arena” in Gelsenkirchen is set to stage game between Schalke 04 and Bayern Munich. This will be first home game for “The Royal Blues” in season 2016-17 and we can say it promises real challenge for Schalke, since Bavarians will travel for Gelsenkirchen after netting six goals in Werder Bremen’s net back in round one. Stunning beginning of the new Bundesliga season for Carlo Ancelotti and his men, padded by victory in the German Super Cup game (2:0 vs Borussia Dortmund) and another five-star effort in Bayern’s first DFB-Pokal fixture (5:0 vs Carl Zeiss Jena).
Schalke 04 vs Bayern Munich – Match Preview
Markus Weinzierl is surely concerned by the magnificent form shown by Bayern and former manager of another Bavarian club (Augsburg) will have to mark its home debut at “Veltins-Arena” against potentially worst possible opposition. Indeed, Schalke 04 couldn’t enjoy on a good start and their opening Bundesliga day hasn’t been something they want to remember – 0:1 defeat at “Commerzbank-Arena” in Frankfurt am Main, where Schalke created more scoring chances but they couldn’t realize any of them.
Two weeks after first Bundesliga round, Schalke 04 must prepare for completely different type of game and we won’t be surprised if we find some of their summer signings in the starting squad. Last round Naldo was the only one who started from all new additions, but we must say that all substitutions were from the new names in Gelsenkirchen, so we won’t be surprised to find any of them in the starting list submitted by Markus Weinzierl.
Abdul Rahman Baba may replace Sead Kolasinac from position of left back while Nabil Bentaleb competes with Dennis Aogo for one of both central midfield positions, used by Schalke 04 in eventual 4-2-3-1 formation. Well, we doubt that “The Royal Blues” will dare to start with something different right now, so Markus Weinzierl can even think about more rotations in the starters. Breel Embolo, who had very successful international “break” after scoring one of the goals for Switzerland in their 2-0 win against Portugal, can take the same role on the right wing. That’s the position where he started against the Euro 2016 winners, as well as Franco Di Santo’s replacement in the game vs Eintracht Frankfurt. Fact that Di Santo was subbed on half time and young Swiss players changed him probably means that Weinzierl can remove the trust from his Argentine forward, especially after the great impact which Embolo had against Portugal. Undoubtedly, one of the most followed names in European football and Schalke 04 can be pleased they can develop his talent right now.
But that’s not all. “The Royal Blues” can boast with two other interesting transfers in last days of the summer window, such as of French midfielder Benjamin Stambouli (from PSG) and Ukrainian winger Yevhen Konoplyanka (from Sevilla).
On other hand we have the almighty team of Bayern Munich which doesn’t need any type of introduction. Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti has succeeded great legacy by his predecessor Pep Guardiola and we can say that Bavarian machine do not need from extra time to start working properly. Their new signings were already announced in season 2015-2016 and transfers of Mats Hummels and Portuguese talent Renato Sanches are something we are already used with, although Sanches still waits for his debut.
We will not be liars if we say that Bayern’s squad is very well balanced and transfer of Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund will provide that so-awaited composure in defense. Since Jerome Boateng still recovers from his torn muscle injury and Holger Badstuber is once again sidelined, we don’t have any doubts that Hummels and Javi Martínez will form the centre-back duo as they did against Werder, but at the same time we won’t be surprised on some rotations. This mostly comes if Carlo Ancelotti decides to keep the 34-year-old Xabi Alonso for the upcoming UEFA Champions League round against Russian vice-champions Rostov, which may open space for eventual debut of Renato Sanches or another chance for Joshua Kimmich, who enjoyed on a great night in Oslo during Germany’s World Cup qualifier, as he scored goal number two in Norway’s net. Or why even not both of them? This can be a bold move by Ancelotti, but let’s assume he decides to rest his Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal, who just had an intercontinental travel, because of his involvement in the South American World Cup qualifiers, where he played full 180+ minutes for Chile in the relevant defeat by Paraguay (1:2) and the goalless draw vs Bolivia in Tuesday evening (early Wednesday morning European time). Even players with his stamina may need some rest after such a busy week, marked by some huge distances covered. Otherwise we expect same attacking trio as in the first round which means that Thomas Müller, Franck Ribéry and Robert Lewandowski, who already has two hat-tricks in three games…
Schalke 04 vs Bayern Munich – Betting Prediction and Possible Lineups
We simply cannot hide our general impressions on the awesome squad which Bayern Munich has and it will be real wonder if they fail to win the Bundesliga again. Of course, we shouldn’t underestimate all other clubs, but let’s compare all the indicators starting from finances, squad depth, teamwork, experience, coach, etc…
Schalke 04 and Markus Weinzierl in particular knows it quite well and Schalke must aim to be competitive in attack, since we doubt they can keep a clean sheet against Bayern. Not only because they’re facing “Reds” from Bavaria, but because of the basic display of Schalke’s defense, at least in our opinion. This will require more attacking efforts by “The Royal Blues” and we are ready to place a bet on “Both teams to score”. Schalke must find a way to punish Manuel Neuer in another returning of their former goalkeeper in his city of birth.
We just cannot find another way and if Schalke wants to squeeze something from that game, they have to trigger their attacking skills. Our betting prediction goes for “Both teams to score – Yes”.
