RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund – Match Preview
RB Leipzig can be content with its first ever Bundesliga fixture as prior international break squad led by Austrian coach Ralph Hasenhüttl has sneaked a point out from their visit to Sinsheim – 2:2 vs Hoffenheim. They were down to 1-2 after goal by Hoffenheim’s Marc Uth in 83rd minute, but Austrian attacker Marcel Sabitzer has leveled the score again, in closing seconds of the match. Thus club from Leipzig found partial consolation for the early DFB-Pokal elimination, from where The Red Bulls were eliminated after being defeated on penalties by their regional rivals Dynamo Dresden, although they took confident 2-0 lead on half-time.
Obviously not the best defensive record for RB Leipzig and they will have to do lot of work to improve that. First step was made in the closing days of summer transfer window with Kyriakos Papadopoulos’ arrival. He will wear RB Leipzig’s jersey on a season-long deal coming from Bayer Leverkusen. However, we won’t be surprised if he remains on bench for that game and Ralph Hasenhüttl will probably rely on the centre-back duo Willi Orban-Marvin Compper.
Good news are that Leipzig’s full back Lukas Klostermann is ready to start as the 20-year-old silver medalist from the 2016 Summer Olympics had to miss previous games due to his international call-up. Undoubtedly a sign he is one of the very progressive players in German football and expectations are that he will take the right-back role here, where Benno Schmitz operated in the opening round.
Borussia Dortmund started season 2016-2017 with an easy walk against Eintracht Trier in the DFB-Pokal (3-0), which was followed by their first Bundesliga fixture – against Thomas Tuchel’s former club Mainz 05. Despite expectations for an easy win, possibly with 2 goals or even bigger margin, Mainz 05 were defeated by only one goal margin (1-2) and both Dortmund goals were scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He has opened his new Bundesliga season scoring account in respectively 17th and in 89th minutes (second goal was from penalty). Nevertheless, Mainz answered in stoppage time and this has formed final 2-1 at “Signal Iduna Park”.
Now “Die Borussen” must show better concentration and Thomas Tuchel can decide will he stick to the starting lineup he used against Mainz, or he will return some experienced players in the starting XI.
One of the competitive positions is on the right-flank of Dortmund’s defense where Lukasz Piszczek is in contention with 18-year-old Felix Passlack, who started against Mainz, before being subbed-off exactly by Piszczek in 77th minute. Position of left defender also arouses some questions where the UEFA Euro 2016 champion Raphaël Guerreiro must do some serious work if he wants to replace Marcel Schmelzer. Not to mention that Erik Durm is also in the squad and he can play on both recently viewed positions – either as a left or right defender.
Both representatives in latest German national team selection are also pushing for starting spot here as Julian Weigl and Mario Götze also have really serious competitors for their positions, respectively in midfield and attack. And if Weigl was used in the first round, coming on Gonzalo Castro’s position, the 2014 FIFA World Cup final goal scorer Mario Götze is eager for his first Bundesliga appearance after returning from rivals Bayern Munich. However, he must cope in really serious race there since players like Ousmane Dembele, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andre Schürrle, Shinji Kagawa, Emre Mor, Christian Pulisic are all in contention, not to mention it will increase even more when Marco Reus recovers from injury.
RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund – Betting Prediction and Possible Lineups
Apparently some serious questions for both coaches and this makes upcoming Bundesliga scuffle between RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund even more intriguing, although Dortmund have been described as absolute favourites to winning it. We believe that both clubs are more convinced in their attacking lines than in their defensive capabilities and these are two from the sides we expect to play attacking football through the season, in anyway attacking-minded league which the German Bundesliga unquestionably is.
Home team coach Ralph Hasenhüttl can also pick among some great talents for his front line as players like Timo Werner, Yussuf Poulsen, Davie Selke and Marcel Sabitzer (all of them are aged 20-22) are motivated to prove on the main stage.
So with few words – plenty of attacking options for both coaches and we expect quite a few goals here. Our betting prediction goes for “Over 3 Goals” and odds are more than acceptable for a Bundesliga match.
