Mainz 05 vs Eintracht Frankfurt prediction for the upcoming Rhein-Main Derby on Friday night, 27 October 2017. Round 10 in the German Bundesliga kick-offs with a regional rivalry when Mainz 05 takes on Eintracht Frankfurt at the “Opel Arena”. Find out what our Bundesliga betting experts have to say in a detailed match preview, prediction and free betting tips.

H2H History: Mainz 05 and Eintracht Frankfurt

Mainz won 4:2 when both clubs last met in May of this year, which was their fourth consecutive home victory over the Frankfurt rivals. In fact, the team playing at home rarely losses in these derbies – Mainz have 6 wins, 7 draws and just one defeat dating from 31 years ago – 0:1 in a DFB-Pokal game.
Same thing goes for “The Eagles” who have 7 wins, 5 draws and only 1 defeat vs Mainz 05, but in Frankfurt. They’re still without a victory when visiting Mainz for a Bundesliga fixture.

Bundesliga: Mainz 05 vs Eintracht Frankfurt 27.10.2017

Both sides come after a successful midweek DFB-Pokal round when Mainz won 3:2 (after ET) vs Holstein Kiel, while Eintracht enjoyed a more peaceful Tuesday night by winning 0:4 in Schweinfurt.
Mainz had a tougher challenge against one of the main pretenders for Bundesliga promotion next season, although they were hosts. Coach Sandro Schwarz used the game to rotate in some positions and Viktor Fischer was the one who grabbed an opportunity to claim more first-team football since he scored twice before being substituted by Pablo De Blasis. Daniel Brosinski scored the winning goal in 101st minute and thereby Mainz reached the Round of 16. Surely a decent way to bounce back after losing 2:0 to Schalke in Gelsenkirchen last weekend.
Eintracht strive to continue their climb up in the Bundesliga table and their walkover over a Regionalliga opposition was another positive result for “The Eagles” from Frankfurt. Niko Kovac’s men can jump to the 4th position, at least for a while, if they finally find a way to win in Mainz.
Eintracht made an impressive comeback against leaders Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, when Dortmund was 0:2 ahead but hosts from Frankfurt scored two in a hurry to form the final 2:2. A draw that has been preceded by two victories (both 2:1) over the newly-promoted but experienced sides of Stuttgart and Hannover.

Match Preview: Team News, Squads and Missing Players

In addition to all absences at the back, Mainz suffered another massive blow in the midweek when goalkeeper Rene Adler has been forced to leave the pitch with an injury. Experienced Adler was replaced by Robin Zentner and the younger goalkeeper is expected to replace Adler once again, just one day before his 23rd birthday.
Meanwhile, Sandro Schwarz remains without a quartet of injured or recovering defenders – captain Niko Bungert, Leon Balogun, Gaëtan Bussmann and Alexander Hack. Thus Jean-Philippe Gbamin looks favourite to start as a centre-back partner of Stefan Bell, who currently wears the captain armband. Wingers Gerrit Holtmann and Karim Onisiwo are the two other injured players but their absence is not crucial for the attacking formation of Mainz.
Eintracht looks inspired right now and Niko Kovac hopes to see more from that performance on Friday. However, the Berlin-born Croatian coach has his own injury concerns and one of them is related with the name of a hard-running right-back Timothy Chandler. He is expected to be sidelined for approximately two months, after a knee injury picked up during the first half of the clash against Dortmund last weekend.
Other injuries in the away side are names of Danny da Costa, Omar Mascarell, Marco Fabian and veteran-skipper Alex Meier, but there are good news as well, and they are that defender Simon Falette returns after serving a suspension.

Mainz 05 vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction and Betting Tips

While historically the Rhein-Main Derby has consistently favoured the home team, it seems that guests from Frankfurt have one of the best possibilities to accomplish their first ever Bundesliga success in Mainz. Nevertheless, this is the German Bundesliga and we find a better value to recommend betting on goals. Currently suggested odds on Over 2.25 Goals represent a tempting value as we expect a high scoring match-up with 3 or more goals between Mainz 05 and Eintracht Frankfurt. With the “Over 2.25 Asian line“, if there are two goals only, you will get half of your money refunded.
