1. FC Köln vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction, Preview, H2H, Lineups 04.04.2017
1. FC Köln and Eintracht Frankfurt are neighbors in current Bundesliga standings when on Tuesday night, 4 April 2017, both clubs meet in a direct encounter for the sixth position. “The Billy Goats” from Köln (Cologne) and “The Eagles” from Frankfurt share the same number of points after 26 rounds, both having 37, which opens a strong opportunity to claim some of the UEFA Europa League spots regularly awarded to Germany.
Köln are currently sixth due to the better goal difference they hold and Peter Stöger’s men might as well rely to a home advantage since they return at their own fortress “RheinEnergieStadion”.
On other hand Eintracht Frankfurt hopes to repeat same outcome as in the last fixture between both clubs in early-November. This seems to be a real challenge for “The Eagles” who can’t be particularly pleased from their record when visiting Köln.
H2H Stats: 1. FC Köln vs Eintracht Frankfurt
The most recent matchup facing FC Köln and Eintracht Frankfurt was on 5 November 2016 when “The Eagles” were final winners at their own “Commerzbank-Arena” in Frankfurt am Main. Mijat Gacinovic scored an early goal which was enough for Eintracht and thus Niko Kovac won his first duel over Peter Stöger.
Couple of months later Stöger is chasing his revenge over Niko Kovac and he relies on a decent home record Köln upholds not only in general, but against Eintracht at all. Guests from Frankfurt are without a win in Köln for more than 20 years – since 7 May 1994. Almost 23 years ago Köln lost 2-3 but thereafter “The Billy Goats” boast with 9 wins and 3 draws in 12 Bundesliga encounters, including both games they have played in the second tier of German football.
Bundesliga: FC Köln vs Eintracht Frankfurt 04.04.2017
Hosts from Köln have only won once in their last seven Bundesliga games, although they climbed up to sixth position. The only win in that period came right before break for international football in end of March when Köln won 4-2 over Hertha BSC (5th) and Anthony Modeste scored a hat-trick.
Nevertheless, Köln feels solid at home turf where “The Billy Goats” have six wins, five draws and only one loss in 12 Bundesliga games. A defeat that came against Bayern Munich one month ago.
Eintracht finds in even poorer form as “The Eagles” have only picked up two points in last seven Bundesliga rounds. Both of them were in last two rounds in which Eintracht Frankfurt reached two scoreless draws at home – vs Hamburger SV and Borussia M’Gladbach last weekend. Moreover, Niko Kovac’s men are clueless in front of opposition’s goal with just one goal in seven games, scored during the 1-2 home loss to Freiburg in beginning of March.
Match Preview: Team News, Squads and Missing Players
Eintracht Frankfurt desperately need to improve its attacking line but without an injured goal scorer Alexander Meier. Niko Kovac must deal with several other injuries and a suspension of Timothy Chandler, whose absence becomes even more crucial as Guillermo Varela remains injured. Under these circumstances Mijat Gacinovic may have to play the role of a right winger on Tuesday night.
Japanese defensive-minded midfielder Makoto Hasebe is also injured and youngster Aymen Barkok can start alongside Omar Mascarell in heart of Eintracht’s midfield.
Branimir Hrgota and Haris Seferovic compete for a spot up front if we presume that Marco Fabian and Ante Rebic are favourites to retain their starting positions.
Peter Stöger will make few rotations compared to the squad that lost in closing seconds of Köln’s last weekend visit to HSV (1-2). Dominique Heintz is fully fit again and should replace Dominic Maroh as a centre-back of Neven Subotic, while Frederik Sörensen could replace Pawel Olkowski as a right-back.
An experienced captain Matthias Lehmann returns after suspension and will start as a central midfielder next to Marco Höger. Thereby Milos Jojic can be moved forward as an attacking midfielder.
In the meantime Marcel Risse, Leonardo Bittencourt, Yuya Osako and Artjoms Rudnevs are all injured and will miss out a midweek Bundesliga round.
FC Köln vs Eintracht Frankfurt Betting Prediction
Both sides are definitely not in-form and we expect a tough game for any of them. However, Köln feels much better at home and this may increase their confidence to a level which will help them prevail over Eintracht Frankfurt.
First, we fancy suggested betting odds on Köln with the Asian Handicap 0 (Draw No Bet) on their side, placed as an additional insurance. Second, we recommend betting on Anthony Modeste as a potential anytime goalscorer. The 28-year-old French striker scored six goals in last three Bundesliga games (he couldn’t score in Hamburg last weekend however) and he already has 22 goals in 26 rounds. This puts Modeste closely behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski who are with 24, but Modeste is surely determined to make a challenge.
Venue: “RheinEnergieStadion”, Köln.
Referee: Wolfgang Stark.
