AS Monaco vs Rennes Prediction, Preview, Lineups & Betting Tips
The last Ligue 1 round in 2017 comes in the midweek, only a few days before Christmas, when AS Monaco hosts to Rennes on Wednesday night. “The Monegasques” have regained part of the lost confidence in the last three domestic fixtures but need to show bigger determination if they want to keep the pressure up on leaders PSG.
Rennes arrived in the Principality of Monaco after a heavy home loss to PSG on Saturday which has put an end to their five-game series without losing.
Ligue 1: AS Monaco vs Rennes 20.12.2017
“The Monegasques” hint to be getting back to shape as the halfway point of the season approaches, so another victory on Wednesday evening against Rennes will maintain some plot in the upcoming weeks.
Monaco accomplished another excellent success when they bashed AS Saint Etienne 4:0 on Friday night, once again showing how sharp their attack can really be. Leonardo Jardim’s men are joint runner-ups in the scoring charts on 44 alongside Lyon and Colombian striker Falcao has been key to much of that, with the scoring predator finding the opposition’s net 14 times in 15 Ligue 1 appearances.
Although they have lost many first-team players through the summer, reigning champions Monaco are still a team capable of blowing away the opponent. They have already been knocked out after the UEFA Champions League groups, finishing last in their group, and should have a much clearer schedule in second half of the campaign compared to many of their rivals. This should give them the best chance possible of hauling in PSG, even though it doesn’t seem very likely.
Rennes meanwhile are having a much improved campaign after they struggled to score frequently in 2016/17. Guests from Brittany are traveling to the French Riviera sitting 7th in the standings, collecting 25 points thus far. Although they don’t boast the best league attack, they’re a side capable to score at least one goal per game and to be more exact – “The Red and Blacks” have scored in 15 out of 18 Ligue 1 rounds.
Team News and Missing Players
Terence Kongolo should feature here as a left-back since Jorge misses out through an accumulation of bookings. Brazilian defender joins the list of absentees where we also find Adama Traore, Youri Tielemans and Gabriel Boschilia, who are all injured, while Stevan Jovetic remains questionable.
Sabri Lamouchi has his own selection headache where except an injured trio including names of Ludovic Baal, Sanjin Prcic and Ismaila Sarr, we also find Benjamin Andre. The 27-years-old midfielder has been sent off in the weekend and must serve a suspension here, so Ramy Bensebaini should cover the central midfield, whilst his Algerian compatriot Mehdi Zeffane can defend the left flank.
Experienced attacking midfielder Yoann Gourcuff is expected to return into Rennes’ starting squad.
AS Monaco vs Rennes Prediction and Betting Tips
Our betting prediction goes on the goal scoring markets and if we sincerely believe Monaco will keep its prolific attacking record, then we also think Rennes will probably extend their scoring form as well. In fact, Rennes have scored at least once in 11 consecutive games and Sabri Lamouchi apparently has an approach – “Both teams to score – Yes“.
