Guingamp vs PSG Prediction, Preview, Lineups, H2H & Betting Tips
Guingamp impressed making a full comeback and winning 1:3 in Metz last weekend, but even at home soil, PSG, boosted by the record-break signing of Brazilian Neymar, will be a sterner test. Guingamp and PSG are neighbours in the 2017-18 Ligue 1 table but it’s still to early for some conclusions after just one round passed. Nevertheless, Guingamp have nothing to lose as we highly doubt someone will criticize the squad, on the contrary, they can only win from such a game.
H2H: Guingamp vs PSG
Last year Guingamp caused a massive surprise only a week before Christmas when Antoine Kombouare’s men defeated PSG 2:1 at home turf. Nill De Pauw (now at Zulte Waregem) opened the score while Yannis Salibur made it 2:0, before a consolation goal scored by Edinson Cavani. Couple of months later, 9 April 2017, Unai Emery took his revenge by winning the duel against Kombouare 4:0 in Paris, but we all know that after all PSG failed to win the Ligue 1 trophy.
Head-to-head stats for period 1995-2017: 24 matches, Guingamp – 5 wins, 8 draws, 11 wins for PSG.
H2H Balance in Guingamp: 4 wins for Guingamp, 5 draws, only 3 wins in PSG’s favour.
Ligue 1: Guingamp vs PSG 13.08.2017
Guingamp wasn’t that convincing in the pre-season friendlies but the most important is team’s outlook in first official match of the season. That victory over Metz came in best possible way since Nolan Roux scored for the home side after only 14 minutes. Later on, in closing first-half minutes, Jimmy Briand scored a penalty to level the score, while second-half goals by both substitutions Ludovic Blas and Mustapha Diallo have marked a win for Guingamp.
Now Antoine Kombouare prepares himself for a tough challenge and although Guingamp is one of the relatively difficult venues for “Les Parisiens”, Guingamp’s boss realizes how powerful PSG really is right now.
Everyone in Paris, not only though, awaits the official debut of Neymar. Last week in minutes before PSG’s home win (2:0 vs Amiens SC) the €222 million purchase has been introduced to the huge crowd and this aroused many questions. Some of them are related with PSG’s team morale since some of the former stars may feel unhappy about their future in the club. However, team chemistry looks fine since Neymar was offered the number 10 jersey by Javier Pastore as a “welcome gift”.
Match Preview: Team News, Squads and Missing Players
PSG travels to Guingamp and “Les Parisiens” are keen to reach third consecutive win in the season (after winning the French Super Cup vs Monaco as well), so Unai Emery won’t hesitate to name his strongest XI. Most likely he will name the same formation that started last week and Javier Pastore may start on the left wing once more, while veteran Blaise Matuidi will remain on the bench. Same goes for Neymar whose debut may be delayed, but that will be clear in hours before the match. Hatem Ben Arfa also remains a doubt.
Guingamp, on the other hand, doesn’t have same variety of superstars and Antoine Kombouare will rely on the team spirit. Anyway, rotations compared to last week’s round are likely and one of them is Ludovic Blas, who can replace Abdoul Camara on the right wing. Moustapha Diallo also made a starting position bid with his goal and performance vs Metz, but we believe Kombouare will name the same central midfield duo – summer signing Lebogang Phiri and Lucas Deaux.
Meanwhile, left defender Franck Tabanou recovers from a ankle injury and will miss out.
Guingamp vs PSG Prediction and Betting Tips
PSG are the clear favourites to win on Sunday night and everything else than a victory of The Parisians will be a huge upset. Their attacking mentality is out of question so this, in our opinion, makes the value on “Both teams to score” very tempting. Guingamp proved they are a team that knows how to score and when we look at PSG’s past visits in the years, there is a good chance to observe a match where both sides will score.
Thus we would recommend three betting markets on this one. First, “Both teams to score – Yes“, while our second bet is: “Over 3 Goals” – Asian Handicap line. And finally, we will also place a small stake on “PSG To Win and Both teams to score“.
