Olympique Marseille – Team News
Olympique Marseille will travel to Lyon after a disappointing Friday night, when Rudi Garcia’s men have failed to beat hosts Guingamp. The 3-3 draw in Guingamp can eventually cost Marseille their top three positioning at the end of the season, but they might as well qualify for the Champions League if they win the 2018 Europa League trophy.
Rudi Garcia couldn’t use two first-team players against Guingamp – Adil Rami and Luiz Gustavo were both suspended for the Ligue 1 round. We won’t be surprised if those two actually build up Marseille’s centre-back duo against Atletico Madrid. Such a rotation is likely because Rolando still recovers from injury and Garcia often rathers using Luiz Gustavo as a central defender in the last couple of weeks.
In addition to the injured Rolando, Rudi Garcia must also follow the situation around his Greek forward Kostas Mitroglou, who remains doubtful. If he fails to recover in time, Valere Germain will once again lead Marseille’s attack, being supported by the trio Thauvin-Payet-Ocampos from the second position.
Atletico Madrid – Team News
Atletico Madrid will cross the French border after a weekend success (1-0) in Getafe. Diego Simeone’s men were victorious and did enough to guarantee their second position in the La Liga. Thus “Cholo” can name all key players in the Europa League final, while he can use some rotation and backup players in the last La Liga game vs Eibar on Sunday night.
Atleti’s boss has his Croatian defender Sime Vrsaljko back from suspension and he’ll most likely start on the right-back, at the expense of Thomas Partey who featured in the second semi-final leg against Arsenal. Partey can be moved in central midfield, where he can partner to veteran-skipper Gabi.
Meanwhile, winger Vitolo missed the weekend La Liga round with due to a hamstring problem and is yet to be seen whether he will be ready for the final or not.
2018 UEFA Europa League Final: Prediction and Betting Tips
Los Colchoneros are keen to win a trophy in the 2017-18 season, which can be their third Europa League final victory after triumphs in 2010 and 2012. Olympique Marseille, on the other hand, have lost their previous two UEFA Cup finals in 1999 (0-3 vs Parma in Moscow) and in 2004 (0-2 vs Valencia in Gothenburg).
We believe that Atletico Madrid have the quality to outplay Marseille in regular time and our betting prediction suggests victory for the Spanish side – 1X2 Betting. Diego Simeone, who is suspended and won’t sit (not that he sits, lol) on the bench, can win the tactical duel against Rudi Garcia and we won’t be surprised if Atleti achieve another narrow success, this time in the Europa League final.
