West Ham vs Arsenal Prediction, Preview, Lineups and Betting Tips
David Moyes has won his first three points on the West Ham helm which is a certain glimmer of hope for The Hammers who are set for another London derby in the midweek Premier League round, when Arsenal arrives at the “London Stadium”. Gunners are heading to East London after a weekend journey to the English South where Southampton were really close to cause a second successive league loss of Arsenal but Olivier Giroud was the golden substitution, scoring his fourth goal in the last four games.
Arsenal actually enters into the midweek encounter having one day less for recovery, after playing in the early Sunday afternoon, while West Ham achieved a considerable victory over Chelsea almost 24 hours earlier.
Premier League: West Ham vs Arsenal 13.12.2017
The Hammers have finally ended their poor EPL run as their latest league win was dating from end of September when Diafra Sakho has scored a late winner against another struggling side – Swansea City. Meanwhile, West Ham achieved another massive result, but for the League Cup, where they have made a full comeback to win 2:3 vs Arsenal’s North London rival –
Tottenham Hotspur. Well, what an irony, West Ham will face Arsenal at the “Emirates” in the next League Cup round which is scheduled for the upcoming Tuesday, 19 December, but we are quite sure that the Premier League schedule is the main priority of both clubs right now.
Before a narrow success against the reigning champion Chelsea, West Ham have had won three points out of eight Premier League rounds and their poor record is placing them in the relegation zone. However, another positive result may emerge them out of the bottom three, especially if WBA fails to pull out something from “Anfield” at the same time.
David Moyes will probably stick within the squad and tactical formation used against Chelsea, meaning he should keep two typical strikers like Andy Carroll and Chicharito on the bench, while Michail Antonio should start on top. Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic, who scored vs The Blues, will be backing the central forward, but presence of Andre Ayew increase the attacking potential of West Ham.
Midfieler Cheikhou Kouyate remains a doubt and can eventually join Sam Byram, Jose Fonte, James Collins, who are all in the injury list. If Kouyate fails to recover in time, Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang will both fill the central midfield.
Arsenal remains out of top four after the draw in Southampton, which has been preceded by three consecutive home games for a period of 10 days. Arsene Wenger’s men have scored 11 goals in only two of them, winning 5:0 vs Huddersfield Town and 6:0 vs BATE Borisov in the Europa League, but the frustration came in a 1:3 defeat to Manchester United. Thus Arsenal occupies fifth position in the EPL standings where the Gunners breathe in the neck of Chelsea and Liverpool, which are third and fourth, respectively.
Arsene Wenger will hope to have Shkodran Mustafi fully fit as the German international has picked up an injury early in the derby against Man United. His experienced compatriot Per Mertesacker started against the Saints on Sunday but his poor performance may open an opportunity for Rob Holding, in case that Wenger decides to start with a centre-back trio and Mustafi fails to recover in time. Of course, Wenger can yet call on Mertesacker but that’s pretty much related with his general approach.
Aaron Ramsey suffered a hamstring injury in the draw against Saints and even if the tests don’t show any major damage, he is still questionable for the London derby on Wednesday. Moreover, the Welsh international could be sidelined for a few weeks if his injury is a strain. His absence may win the first starting appearance of Jack Wilshere in current Premier League campaign.
Danny Welbeck, Alex Iwobi and Olivier Giroud are others eager for more first-team football but only Giroud currently seems as a potential starter. We highly doubt Wenger is willing to leave either Özil or Alexis Sanchez on the bench.
West Ham vs Arsenal Prediction and Betting Tips
This London derby has seen a minimum of three goals scored in ten of the last 11 editions. Arsenal have won nine of those and lost the only one (0:2) where they’ve failed to score, and they’re once more the big favourite ahead the clash. Most people ask themselves can the Hammers win consecutive London derbies for a few days only or their dreadful season will prevail? Well, our betting experts believe West Ham will look pretty enthusiastic and can use the gained momentum to score at least once. Our betting tip recommends the goal scoring markets: “Both teams to score – Yes“.
