Derby of Manchester: United vs City Preview, 10 September 2016

That Community Shield victory against surprising champions of the 2015-2016 English Premier League season was a wonderful way for Portuguese manager to introduce himself (not that Mourinho needs some special introduction…) to all supporters, but all next results were even more categorical sign Manchester United can compete for the EPL trophy. We can say that all new signings are brilliant so far and all doubts around Ivorian defender Eric Bailly have been demolished, since he’s one of the strongest players at “Old Trafford” this season. Transfer of French midfielder Paul Pogba has been subject of lot of discussions and his second spell at “Old Trafford” will be by completely different character, that’s out of question. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has already scored four goals in the first three games of Manchester United and players from his caliber doesn’t need any extra time to adapt in the new atmosphere. Maybe only Henrikh Mkhitaryan will need more time to settle but his transfer increases the squad depth and until now Juan Mata does decent work on the right wing, so Mkhitaryan will have enough time and credit by Jose Mourinho. However, he is one of the players who’re doubtful for the upcoming derby game as he even missed the World Cup qualifier of Armenia against Denmark, since he picked up a knock in the friendly against Czech Republic.
Another player who has returned from international duty with a knock is Luke Shaw. This places him next to Mkhitaryan in the list of players who’re doubtful cause of injuries, while Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia have all been involved in the South American World Cup qualifiers and expectations are that most of them will return one or two days before the game. Apparently a fact which leaves serious doubts on their match fitness and will they be effective if they’re in the starting lineup. Anyway, Romero and Rojo are among the substitutions so the biggest question is around Ecuadorian wing-back Antonio Valencia, who can be replaced by someone from Phil Jones, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Matteo Darmian, so all of them are on standby.
Anthony Martial’s poor form may cost him his starting position on the left wing, especially after Marcus Rashford has benefited from his chance as he scored the late winner against Hull City last round. Late and important win for “The Red Devils”, win which reminds of the trademarked dramatic wins under sir Alex Ferguson’s management. Actually Rashford’s form remains on really good level as the 18-year-old striker scored a hat-trick in the 6-1 win of England U21 against Norway U21.
Pep Guardiola can’t boast with same achievement as his Portuguese rival, but that’s because his new club had no chance to fight for trophy early in the season. However, main priority for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are all trophies which can be won in the spring and “Citizens” from Manchester can be pleased by fact they have joined the UEFA Champions League group phase without any extra effort, as they eliminated Steaua after only one leg – 5:0 win in Bucuresti, which made the second leg meaningless, but however, it was once again won by Man City – 1:0. This marks a winning streak from five games in a row for former manager of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, so basically Pep Guardiola will enter into his 17th scuffle with Mourinho unbeaten.
Besides good form of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has a lot to consider ahead of his much awaited clash against Jose Mourinho on Saturday. First of all Guardiola will have to take important decision regarding Man City’s attack, since Argentine striker Sergio Agüero has been given a three-match ban for elbowing Winston Reid in the 3-1 win against West Ham. That happened prior to the international break, which means that Kun Agüero will miss not only the Manchester Derby, but games against AFC Bournemouth and Swansea as well. Expectations are that Nigerian youngster Kelechi Inheanacho should lead the line, but alternatively Guardiola could use Raheem Sterling or even Kevin De Bruyne through the middle with a false nine role.
Meanwhile captain Vincent Kompany and newly arrived German duo Ilkay Gundogan/Leroy Sane are close to return, as they have all been training with hopes to make season debuts in the Manchester derby, but it remains to be seen how fit they are for eventual appearances in Saturday.
Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo looks ready to make his debut for the “Sky Blue” team from Manchester while French right-back Bacary Sagna looks ready to return, after missing City’s last three matches.

Man Utd vs Man City – Betting Prediction and Possible Lineups

Rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City becomes even more highlighted after both clubs have signed with names like Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, who already have spectacular competition in top European football leagues. Their head-to-head meetings are 16 and Pep Guardiola can be the one who gains psychological advantage from that fact, as the Spaniard has won in seven of them against only three victories for Jose. Most of their duels were in period when Pep led Barcelona, while Mourinho was Real Madrid’s boss. In them we find 5 wins for Guardiola, 4 draws and 2 wins for Mourinho. However, his biggest success over Guardiola’s Barcelona was with another club when on 20 April 2010 Inter Milan achieved 3-1 success in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. That game was followed by 1-0 win for Barca in the second leg, but it was insufficient to qualify them to the final. Rest is history and most of you probably remember that Mourinho lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy after his Inter won against Bayern Munich in the final game.
Alright, enough history lessons. We must focus on what’s coming and we all know that nobody in Manchester cares about history between both managers, important is only what they’ll achieve in England.
We have two teams in really decent form, remarkable financial support and some great transfers who have all been finalized during summer transfer window. That’s why we won’t be surprised if both teams are pleased with eventual scenario of sharing a point here. Both managers are presumably more worried by possibility of losing the Manchester derby which could bring potential mental blow. We all know that English fans and media can be extremely critical, even towards their favourites, so both Manchester clubs are desperate to avoid possible defeat.
Fact that Manchester United will take the home initiative is always a plus and they can be inspired from two wins in their last three games vs “City”. Anyway, they were preceded by four consecutive defeats, but still Jose Mourinho will try to find proper way how to upset his Spanish opponent near the touch line.
Our betting predictions for that game are including full stake of 10 units and we will share them as it follows – 7 from 10 on “Both teams to score“, as we expect goals by both sides here. Manchester United hold the physical advantage but technical superiority is definitely for City and we believe that both teams will benefit from their relevant advantages in some period of the game.
Our second betting tip is with lower stake, but on higher odds. As we already noted, we believe that both sides will be looking for full asset of points, but in final they won’t be disappointed on a draw so early in the season. That’s why our second prediction is for a “draw” (1X2 betting) in first Manchester derby for season 2016-2017.

Venue: “Old Trafford”, Manchester.
