FC Midtjylland vs Brondby Prediction, Preview, Lineups & Betting Tips
FC Midtjylland take on Brondby in one of the most anticipated Danish Superliga games this season, meeting the top two sides in a head-to-head duel at the “MCH Arena” in Herning. Hosts from Herning are current Superliga leaders, having slight advantage (3 points) over their Copenhagen rivals, who will level Midtjylland if they manage to win on Thursday night. On the other hand, a win for FC Midtjylland will strengthen their pole position and can be a crucial step to the 2018 Superliga trophy for Jess Thorup’s men.
“The Wolves” now have 8 successive Superliga wins, remaining unbeaten since first half of September when they’ve lost 3-4 away to Brondby’s city rivals – FC Copenhagen. Thus FC Midtjylland can boast themselves having 13 wins and one draw only for the past 14 rounds, scoring 40 goals in that period – an average of 2.86 goals per game.
Furthermore, FC Midtjylland are also unbeaten in the DBU-Pokalen (Danish Cup) where they’ll meet Hobro in the quarter-finals next month – early in April.
Brondby spent the winter break being on just a point behind FCM and Alexander Zorniger’s men are eager to finish on top of the Superliga for the first time since 2005, when they’ve won the Superliga under Michael Laudrup’s management. The Boys from the Western outskirts of Copenhagen have already slipped once when visiting Aalborg nearly 10 days ago and the 1-1 draw vs AaB has increased FC Midtjylland’s lead. This means that even a draw would be a suitable result for the home side, while Brondby must play for the three points, although there are many rounds remaining, so a strategic draw won’t be that bad at all, especially when it’s on the road.
Superliga: FC Midtjylland vs Brøndby IF – Prediction and Betting Tips
FC Midtjylland have won all their games throughout 2018 so far, beating Horsens (2-0 away), FC Copenhagen (3-1 home) and Hobro (2-1 away), respectively. Unfortunately, Nigerian striker and top scorer Paul Onuachu (in Alex Sørloth’s absence) got injured in the first official game this year (vs Horsens) and he still recovers from a back injury, making him questionable ahead the upcoming clash. Although Onuachu and his fellow compatriot Rilwan Hassan were both included in FCM’s wide group for Hobro last weekend, they were not included in the matchday group so we’re not sure whether they’ll be ready to start against Brondby. This can be a huge blow to Midtjylland’s attack and Jess Thorup may have to find another replacement since the third Nigerian Frank Onyeka has been sent-off vs Hobro, so he will be suspended for the upcoming leg. If either Onuachu or Hassan fail to recover in time, Bozhidar Kraev can be used as a right winger and Gustav Wikheim will play on top of the 3-4-3 formation. Otherwise Onuachu would lead FCM’s attack, supported by Wikheim and Mikkel Duelund through both wings.
Brondby head to Herning with its own defensive concerns as Alexander Zorniger can’t rely on the suspended Finnish defender Paulus Arajuuri. However, good news are that Icelandic centre-back Hjörtur Hermannsson has served his suspension and will build the Brondby centre-back alongside Benedikt Röcker.
Despite the potential missing attackers in FC Midtjylland, “The Wolves” know how to play attacking football and that’s the philosophy of their coach Jess Thorup. There were over 2.5 goals scored in 8 of the last 10 Superliga matches of FC Midtjylland, while for Brondby – that’s valid in 6 of the last 7 Superliga rounds. Moreover, both teams have scored in all of the last 7 league games of Brondby, with the aforementioned draw in Aalborg being an only exception from the “over 2.5” rule. Perhaps the early red card (30 min) shown to defender Hjörtur Hermannsson was the reason why there were just 2 goals scored in that game.
We expect hard running, endless efforts and total dedication by both sides in the Danish cold on Thursday night, so our betting prediction goes for goals. We recommend: “Both teams to score & Over 2.5 Goals” – a winning market which we’ve seen in 6 of the last 7 games played by Brondby in the Superliga.
