H2H History: FC Copenhagen vs FC Nordsjaelland
Hosts Copenhagen are keen to break the winless run when facing FC Nordsjaelland in 2017. There are four Superliga games between both sides in the period February-August and three of them have ended without a winner, while FC Nordsjaelland won the last one in end of August – 3:0 victory at the “Right to Dream Park” in Farum.
FC Nordsjaelland is a new club which was founded only 14 years ago – in July 2003. However, for a period of 14 years these two sides have met 49 times and their Sunday meeting will be the 50th competitive fixture involving FC Copenhagen and Nordsjaelland.
The overall balance so far is: 28 wins for FCK against only 10 in FCN’s favour, while the draws are the second most common outcome – 11.
Superliga: FC Copenhagen vs FC Nordsjaelland 03.12.2017
Visitors from Farum are focused over the domestic competition only and this exclusively means the Superliga, since they have been knocked out by the Danish Cup after a dramatic penalty-shootout in Hobro. That happened in first day of November and has been followed by two other unconvincing results (2:2 vs Lyngby; 4:2 loss vs Brondby) before a 6:0 home win against Horsens last weekend.
Anyway, we should admit that when everything goes well for Kasper Hjulmann’s youngsters, they’re surely one of the most entertaining football teams in Denmark. “The Wild Tigers” are those with most goals scored in the Superliga (45) and there are two players responsible for 26 of them – Emiliano Marcondes (14) and Ernest Asante (12). However, we must highlight that FC Nordsjaelland is also the club with most goals conceded (31) among all top 9 ranked. For instance, last-placed FC Helsingor conceded the same number of goals after 17 rounds but of course, their attack is far from being close to FCN’s efficiency.
FC Copenhagen lost the momentum that made them convincing champions in the past two seasons and it seems that all outgoing transfers in the last couple of months have been significant for their performance. Stale Solbakken showed activity in attempt to find adequate replacements but all new names will need some time to replace players like Mathias “Zanka” Jørgensen, Ludwig Augustinsson, Thomas Delaney, Andreas Cornelius, who all were key to FCK’s success in the last years.
Stale Solbakken’s men enter into game week 18 with 25 points collected, being on 14 points behind their city rivals Brondby. Moreover, they have lost a league match against Brondby at home, which happened for the first time since 2004. Their 0:1 defeat in “The New Firm” derby was the first one from all three consecutive defeats of FCK in November. That’s another negative indicator for the reigning champion, happening for the first time since August 2014, when Copenhagen lost four games in a row but two of them were against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League play-offs. Little more than three years later Copenhagen failed to score and lost in two Superliga matches against Brondby and SønderjyskE, followed by a 2:1 loss to Lokomotiv in Moscow in the UEFA Europa League.
FC Copenhagen vs FC Nordsjaelland Preview: News, Squads and Missing Players
Thankfully, after three weeks full of disappointment, prior and after the international break which will be remembered with Denmark’s World Cup breakthrough, there were finally some good news for FC Copenhagen. “The Lions” made a comeback to win 5:1 vs Lyngby at home last weekend, scoring all goals after the 64th minute. In addition to a pleasant score line, Stale Solbakken can be content it was the last from all three games which Benjamin Verbic missed due to suspension. Now the Slovenian winger will be back in the starting XI and he will replace Youssef Toutouh, who is injured anyway, on the left wing. Apart from Toutouh, other absentees are – Erik Johansson, Mikael Antonsson and Jan Gregus.
William Kvist returned into training after missing a whole week because of illness. However, Stale Solbakken may leave Kvist on the bench and start with a central midfield duo Zeca-Uros Matic.
Cypriot striker Pieros Sotiriou is also back in the squad and should start alongside Andrija Pavlovic. They both have scored 7 goals in the Superliga, which is the same amount scored by winger Benjamin Verbic.
FC Nordsjaelland head to the capital inspired by its win over FC Copenhagen earlier this season, but this time situation will be different.
Kasper Hjulmand will most likely name the same attacking trio in his preferred 3-4-3 formation as he did in the victory over Horsens. This can win another start for the 18-years-old American winger Jonathan Amon, who scored the fifth goal against Horsens. He competes with the Norwegian Mathias Rasmussen, who scored the sixth one in the same match. Defender Emil Damgaard, as well as the two strikers Godsway Donyoh and Martin Frese are all injured and won’t travel to Copenhagen.
FC Copenhagen vs FC Nordsjaelland Prediction and Betting Tips
A game involving these two teams at the “Telia Parken” usually promises goals, or at least one, since there isn’t a goalless match when they’ve met in Copenhagen thus far.
Considering the attacking potential both coaches definitely have in their squads, we believe it’s very likely that both teams will score on Sunday night. Furthermore, we also think that FC Copenhagen will start winning the major games sooner or later and with Verbic in the squad they’re surely capable of more, especially against a side with so many youngsters like FC Nordsjaelland. Our betting prediction goes on: FC Copenhagen To Win & Both Teams To Score – Yes.
